Hard or Soft Brexit?

What should happen?

  • Hard Brexit

    Votes: 31 46.3%
  • Soft Brexit

    Votes: 9 13.4%
  • Another referendum on the terms of the Brexit deal

    Votes: 14 20.9%
  • Forget it all and remain

    Votes: 11 16.4%
  • Bart

    Votes: 2 3.0%

  • Total voters
    67
And you would do well to remember that 48% of the UK population voted for remain, not for "the tyranny of the majority." That's not how British democracy works.

What tyranny you arse! And yes it is how it works numpty boy. There was a fair democratic referendum and the majority vote was abided by. That's democracy at work in it's essence. You, in your warped socialist mind can't accept that but that's how it is. If you have a different meaning to the word then I'm damn glad you live in Spain and not here any more.

Perhaps we should have more referendums then? :winking:

How about one on how to fund the NHS?

Btw,people weren't offered a choce on what sort of Brexit they wanted.Presumably the 48% who voted remain would want as soft a Brexit as possible, as well as a great number of those who voted leave-thereby pushing the soft Brexit vote to well past 51%.

this is a very good point IMO

Of course they weren't. That wasn't what the referendum was about. It was a straight yes or no as to whether we should leave knowing all that we knew at that time.

Re the NHS. What a good idea. Would you like to set out the exact how's and why's it should be funded in a certain way and also while you're about it put together an alternative means of doing it. No, of course you wouldn't, indeed couldn't. It's far too complicated to put to the populace. Just like the finite details of a Brexit. With the vote to leave I and the other 51% put the job of getting out of the EU in the hands of the elected Government. It's the same scenario in a GE. Yes we get an election manifesto as to what will happen but no one knows for sure and we trust them (or don't as the case may be) All this bollocks about a hard or soft Brexit. We will leave. We will get the deal/s that benefit the UK as a whole and the EU will get their pound of flesh from us. That's deal making. That's how it works. Yes certain parts of the UK economy will suffer and certain parts of society will suffer too. That's inevitable and in my opinion acceptable in the circumstances. What isn't acceptable is blindly going forward with the status quo and accepting the whole corrupt and unelected behemoth that is the EU having such a divisive and dictatorial influence over the UK. Brexit WILL happen and in my opinion, after a period of uncertainty and division the UK will go on into the future with a renewed confidence in it's own ability to forge it's way in the world and succeed.

That's precisely the problem with referenda. They can only ever offer a binary choice.

I'm happy enough to accept that the British people have voted to leave the EU.

I can only hope our elected politicians will be wise enough to opt for a soft Brexit. It's not bollocks btw.

It's going to make a huge difference for many people's future employment prospects and indeed for the future prosperity (or not) of the UK as a whole.

I wish I could share your optimism about the future but I don't.

But that is precisely what's good about them. You, me and I'd guess 99% of the general population aren't capable of taking in and understanding the machinations and complications of a Brexit prior to a vote. Can you imagine the turmoil and uncertainty in peoples minds if a step by step guide as to how and why it was going to happen a certain way was laid out in front of Joe Bloggs before a referendum? Can you imagine how many people would be clamouring for the whole process to be simplified and laid out in layman's terms because they didn't understand the process?

I don't believe it will be either. Rather a bit of both. Both the EU and the UK will do the usual sabre rattling and posturing but ultimately come to terms that suit both parties on almost all deals.

There you go again. You don't know that. It's what you believe will happen. No one knows. There are fact, predictions, forecasts and opinions for both sides. Try adding 'In my opinion' or 'I believe' in front of your statements. It will make your comments look far less arrogant than than they do currently.

On a slightly different tack. The EU have known for many years that they've got to clean up their act and adapt to changing political climates and financial situations but because of individual power trips, egos, corruption and a burning ambition in creating that European Superstate that it's just never happened. This Brexit vote has hopefully been the wake up call that either forces that change or brings down the whole sorry house of cards.

Unfortunately the EU and the status quo have acted like petulant little children after Brexit. Not just ego and power but total self interest means they are utterly incapable of change. Most of Europe know it, including many of the 48% of Remainers.

Those of us who voted out are now being treated like sexual abuse victims in the 70's and 80's. They have resorted to victim blaming, because its easier than dealing with the cause.

Its a war beginning between the left and right. If the left keep calling the right racists enough times, they think it will somehow guilt us into adopting their liberal views.

"You must think how we think!!"

I think it's time the Leave voters hit back with some blanket insults towards all Remainers. I'll start; everyone who voted Remain is just a little bitch of the big business world, an unwitting corporate whore, whether they know it or not.

And my retort is, err, BIG NOSE!!

My favourite bit ever in that film. I can feel the laughter welling up now. Shame it's too funny and left wing for the right wingers here to appreciate.:winking:

Surely the stoning scene or my favourite, the sign scene were even better?

Little know fact about TLOB.Antony Burgess used to watch it every year until he died.

OK I'll bite. I don't see anything 'left-wing' in the Life of Brian whatsoever. It is irreverent but always respectful when the audience sees the occasional glimpse of the actual Messiah, and it's also the inspiration for one of my favourite comedy sketches of all time:

Well done Rusty, I was worried no one would bite. Supernaut decided that it was insult time for 'remainers', I presumed with a tinge of irony. Benfleet added a 'big nose' cracker, so I chucked in the Life of Brian right wingers bit as it was absurd enough to sound a bit serious..........

Not all lefties are traitors.....But all traitors are lefties

I see Paul Nuttall is in favour of capital punishment for child killers. Lets hope that gains him lots more voters from the northern Labour strong holds. He wants to speak for the patriotic working classes, you know the very people you despise.

Of course his appointment just adds to your miserable year, so I wouldn't describe you as smug.

And the relevance of this to the thread title is.....:whistling:
