George Moncur

I don't think there's any great mystery to Moncur, he's simply lost half a yard of pace which prevents him from turning and playing the sort of passes he used to and even at this level, you can get closed down very quickly. There might be a team that could fit him in and if so, good luck to him.

He initially looked good when he arrived but he isn't getting the game time he would have wanted..

Best he moves on if he isn't going to play and costs money
Difficult for him to shine when there is little off the ball movement, anticipation or imagination from the crab ball mentality that has been drummed into the team. He will do well in a team that plays a more enterprising style of football.

Can see both sides to this. Has lost pace & not at full fitness which is on him. That said feel he’s been shoehorned into a less preferred role and system rather than allowed greater freedom which may have brought out his best. If it was one or two players you could look past it but the fact is under Kev Maher we have players who play with lesser freedom than they may under another. The obsession with retaining possession has sadly stifled the attacking intent from so many of our players. As others have said, taking risks is coached out of them and we see so many safe decisions to go sideways / backwards. Fans see it and that is a major source of frustration. For some players too, why Moncur may be the latest to move on as he ‘doesn’t fit Kev’s system’ 🙄

There are many players who havent been given a fair crack of the whip by KM. He prefers his favourites even when they are out of form. Unfortunately GM is one of them.

I think ultimately he's a luxury player who needs to be in the 10 role with no defensive responsibility.

As we know, every player in our team is expected to get behind the ball out of possession or at the very least stick it on the oppo back line and DMs.

If we're playing a CM three, we can scarcely afford to have George as one of those, especially when most sides now field three CMs. Asking to lose the midfield battle if you do.

Genuinely think he could have had a better season to this point, but has panicked like Callum Powell whenever he's had a sight of goal, either laying the ball off or missing dreadfully.

Only 1 assist too, probably the worst half season he's ever had and at the lowest level he's ever played. If I were him I'd be concerned about the possibility of even getting a club in the summer.
Yes the 10 role focussed on creativity with no tracking back is really the role he needs. We simply don’t offer that. Or a team like FGR who are so strong across the pitch that they are generally on the front foot- GM is much better facing forwards than back.

As has been said doubt we would have signed him had we been able to sign our first choices on the whiteboard (fruit drink regrettably)

At the start of the season he made up for that because his brain was a yard quicker. last couple of times I have seen him he has also lost that yard as well.

From super busy to minding his own business. That has zero to do with tactics or formations. When any player crosses that white line they either want it or they don't.......Same in any contact sport

Well, yeah. His ball retention at the start was top drawer, but we have players like Cav and Morton that can also do that in the centre of the park. No. 10's are there to unlock defences, which i'm afraid he didn't manage to do

Agreed, but very few pro teams, whatever the level, can afford the luxury of a 10 with no tracking back anymore. Even teams who dominate possession are vulnerable to counter attack if they're carrying a luxury creator.
