George Moncur

No doubt a quality player but I thought there were a couple of times in the second half on Saturday when Pepple made a half decent run and Moncur could have played him in but chose to turn back and play a safer pass.

Hopefully the understanding between them grows as the season goes on.
i thought Moncur played it a lot safer yesterday, wasn't taking as many chances for whatever reason

Echo today is reporting that George's future with us is uncertain as is being tracked by another NL club and could now head elsewhere for the remainder of the season.
I doubt he'll be leaving as his contract at Orient runs up end of the season, why go through two lots of upheaval with a new loan move in Jan followed by a permanent move in May.

Been absolutely dreadful for us, think it's a combination of poor individual performance and not fitting into our team or Kev's plans.

....I wonder if the poor individual performance been through lack of fitness ? We can't keep carrying players that only last 65 mins

I think ultimately he's a luxury player who needs to be in the 10 role with no defensive responsibility.

As we know, every player in our team is expected to get behind the ball out of possession or at the very least stick it on the oppo back line and DMs.

If we're playing a CM three, we can scarcely afford to have George as one of those, especially when most sides now field three CMs. Asking to lose the midfield battle if you do.

Genuinely think he could have had a better season to this point, but has panicked like Callum Powell whenever he's had a sight of goal, either laying the ball off or missing dreadfully.

Only 1 assist too, probably the worst half season he's ever had and at the lowest level he's ever played. If I were him I'd be concerned about the possibility of even getting a club in the summer.

the reason Moncur dosent fit in is because of the tactics our beloved legend loves us to play, side ways ,backwards anyway but forward , Moncurs vision is beyond most players sight , He too good for us and sorry to say will move on and show us what me have missed with a team that has a manager that knows how to get the best out of him

So to summarise, Moncur not working out here is down to the staff and all the other players, but nothing to do with Moncur?

I doubt it to be honest.

I bet he doesn't.

Funny reading the earliest posts in this thread now. I remember his first game at the Hall, when every time he touched the ball it was an “ooh” from the West. Shame that for whatever reason it’s not worked out for GM - he sounds like a decent bloke, with some definite talent in his locker which you see flashes of. Just hasn’t had the impact hoped, sadly, or contributed enough goals & assists.

If we acknowledge Moncur's technical abilities with his range of passing and his vision to see the pass then you have to question his ability to adapt his game to the teams requirements. As a senior pro having played at a higher level arguably it shows a lack of 'football' intelligence to not be able to drop to Step 1 and be able to dictate what ever game play is required. Yes undoubtedly fitness has played it's part in his underwhelming contribution but you have to question the footballing mentality in his approach to his time here.
