I believe this is the last home game for the Ladies for this season with the next 4 or 5 (I am not too sure tbh) being away.
I shall be taking a trip over to watch tomorrow

That’s right. Next week is an away game in the semi-finals of the Essex Women’s Trophy, followed by five away league fixtures (and hopefully the Trophy final at a neutral venue!), so tomorrow is the last home game of 2024/25.

Southend United Ladies remain top of the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Division One South table despite a frustrating 3-3 draw at home to Stanway Pegasus.

Blues led 2-0 and 3-1 in the encounter, and although their lead at the summit is now three points from Colney Heath in second, the threat to their position is more likely to come from Hutton - who Blues are scheduled to face at the end of the season - and Chelmsford City, who both have multiple games in hand.

Southend were slow starters at Garon Park this afternoon, although Danni Hindley was narrowly off-target from an early Abbie Rex cross from the left-hand side. Blues enjoyed a lot of success down that side, and so it was no surprise when Lauren Johnson’s excellent swinging delivery was met by Hannah Smith in the 16th minute. Her initial touch took the ball away from a defender, and with the second she prodded underneath the visiting goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

The Shrimpers grew in confidence, and Vicky Kinsman’s presence as a focal point for Johnson’s long throws would lead to the second goal midway through the opening period. Having flicked a throw into the path of Hindley to nod over, her next attempt was turned around the left-hand post by the goalkeeper. From the resultant corner, Hindley curled the ball from the quadrant directly in via the inside of the far post.

Southend could have moved further clear, but a Kinsman header drifted narrowly wide and Rex saw her initial effort from close range pushed back into her path, only to find the goalkeeper’s gloves with the follow-up.

Having dominated the first half, it was disappointing that the lead was halved with five minutes remaining before half-time when goalkeeper Caitlin Spenner turned away a fierce shot, but was unable to prevent the rebound from being turned home via the left-hand upright.

The second half saw Stanway start strongly, and Amber Denton did well to cover when Spenner was beaten to a right-wing cross before another Pegasus attempt was deflected onto the crossbar.

On 56 minutes, Blues restored their two-goal cushion as Spenner’s kick was flicked on by Kinsman for Smith, and she confidently lobbed the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to make it 3-1.

However, Southend were unable to build on that advantage, and they saw their lead reduced with 20 minutes remaining as a superb strike from the right-hand side flew past Spenner into the top corner.

Within seconds, the Blues custodian had made an excellent save to deny Pegasus an equaliser from a similar position, but the visitors did hail themselves level with ten minutes remaining as a forward beat Spenner to nod home a right-wing cross from around twelve yards out.

It looked as though Southend might have a late opportunity to snatch all three points when Smith located Ellie Nicholls, but she was unable to bring the ball under control whilst one-on-one with the goalkeeper as the sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

The game finished 3-2 to Brentwood Town, with the winner coming in the 115th minute. Blues had to play the entirety of extra time - and the final four minutes of regulation time - with ten players, and there was a penalty save at 2-2 as well in an Essex Women’s Trophy semi-final that had almost everything.

Cup exit - for Southend United (Image: SUFC LADIES)

SOUTHEND United’s ladies suffered disappointment in the Essex Women’s Trophy semi-final, losing 3-2 at Brentwood Town.

Danielle Hindley and Ellie Nicholls netted for the Shrimpers who were beaten in extra time which they played with 10 players after Amber Denton was sent off.

The Ladies stay top of the league table after this win, although the destination of the championship is currently out of their hands with four matches remaining.

Romford are bottom of the table, but they posed some problems early on and it wasn't until Ellie Nicholls scored the second goal deep in first-half stoppage time that Southend could really relax. Danni Hindley had scored with a free-kick on 28 minutes, but there was some excellent defending (amongst some unsettling moments) from the back three - and Reyes Humbles in particular - during that first period, along with a vital save from Caitlin Spenner.

The second half was completely different, and Blues could've scored far more than the four goals they did manage, with an own goal making it 3-0, then Rianne Dimmock (who was outstanding in an unfamiliar position), Nicholls again and Hannah Smith getting on the scoresheet.

You should see a full report on the official website during the week.

Today’s match ended in a 6-1 defeat. It was a day when almost anything that could go wrong did go wrong; players (and kit) were caught in traffic as a result of accident on the A127, the team had to wear Hertford’s away kit, kick-off was delayed by 40 minutes and the appointed referee didn’t appear.

The match was shortened to 35 minutes each way as the pitch was only booked until 4:00pm, but Blues didn’t get going at all and it was probably just as well it didn’t last 90 minutes!

Vicky Kinsman scored the Southend goal and Ellie Nicholls hit the crossbar at 2-1, almost bringing the scores level, but instead Hertford went up the other end and extended their lead before adding three more goals in the final few minutes of the match.
