SOUTHEND United's ladies side finally resumed their season with a 4-2 win at Leigh Ramblers in the County Trophy.
The Shrimpers had gone seven weeks without a fixture due to the Christmas break and the freezing weather.
And centre-back Amber Denton believes Blues learnt plenty from their return to action.
"It was a great result at the weekend especially to come from 2-0 down to get a 4-2 win," said Denton.
"Although we achieved the win, there was a lot we need to take from the game and can improve on in our next coming matches.
"As a team we went into the game too confident, believing it was going to be an easy match, and I think we were shocked when the first goal went in so early.
"But as a team we stayed positive and showed determination all the way until the end, even when a lot of decisions were not going our way.
"Overall, we played well but we can play much better.
"But it was a good way to come back after a very extended Christmas break."
Hannah Smith scored twice for the Shrimpers in the win while Danielle Hindley and Ellie Nicholls were also on target in a match which saw Southend wearing their new away kit for the first team.
And Denton is loving the increased level of input from the club since the consortium came on board.
"As a team we love having the new kits," said Denton.
"It's been lovely to have a home, away and even training kit which never could’ve been done without the support from the club.
"Having the club putting more into the ladies team really gives the team confidence as we don’t feel overlooked and feel valued as a ladies team.
"Also with the sideline support from Justin (Rees) it just shows how much support he has in us going forward.
"Social media from the men’s team as well has given us a massive boost, as we are seeing more supporters watching on a Sunday and more acknowledgement on platforms such as X and Instagram; all which has been positive!"
However, Denton is keen to keep that going - starting with a good result against Toby Ladies in Division One South of the Eastern Region Women's Football League at Garon Park on Sunday.
"We are definitely hoping for a win this weekend, to carry on our league success," said Denton.
"I think it will be a physical game just like the away fixture, but we're hoping to come away with the three points.
"We're also hoping to carry on our winning ways and get back into our ways of playing football."
The Shrimpers will head into the clash sitting second in the standings, three points behind Colney Heath with a game in hand.
And Denton has high hopes for the remainder of the campaign.
"As a team we would love to progress right through to the final of the Essex Women’s trophy as I think we have a great shot at getting there," said Denton.
"But the league title is the main thing we are aiming for.
"Although there have been a few injuries within the squad we are still more than capable of progressing all the way and the winning the league."
"That would show how far we have come as a club and would give a thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way."
