Fixtures and Results for 2024/25 Season

Nice to see the OS now reporting on games. :LoyalSupporter:

The Shrimpers secured three points in a 4-2 victory against Hutton FC Ladies at Garons Park on Sunday afternoon.

Despite going behind after a penalty was awarded to Hutton, the Ladies bounced back from last weekend’s defeat thanks to goals from Ellie Nicholls, Hannah Smith and a brace from Reyes Humbles.

Kick-off

The opposition got the game underway with possession fairly even between the two sides.

Seven minutes in, the Shrimpers created the first chance of the game. A through ball found its way to Nicholls who chipped the goalkeeper, hitting the underside of the crossbar before bouncing back out. Despite the ball appearing to cross the goal line, the goal was not awarded by the referee.

As the rain fell down hard, both sides struggled to retain possession of the ball as the conditions became difficult.

On the half an hour mark, in the wet conditions, the ball struck Beth Cooper’s arm, and the opposition were awarded a penalty. Hutton’s Holly Appleton stepped up and sent Blues goalkeeper Molly Lee the wrong way to put Hutton in front.

It only took the Shrimpers took three minutes from going behind to equalise through Humbles. A ball down the left channel found Smith who crossed the ball across the box straight to Humbles, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Two minutes later, another cross from the left channel, this time from Chloe Woolaway was cleared by the Hutton goalkeeper, only to find its way to Humbles who easily sent the ball back past the stopper for her second goal of the game.

HALF TIME: Southend United Ladies 2-1 Hutton FC Ladies

The Blues got the second half underway and within ten minutes of the restart, a free-kick from Amber Denton made its way into the box and fell kindly to Smith who drove the ball home.

In the 70th minute, Hutton were down to 10 players due to a sin bin. Alleged dissent towards the referee meant the Shrimpers had an extra player for ten minutes. With the advantage, we bagged a fourth goal when the ball was slid through to Nicholls who outran the Hutton defenders and slotted the ball past the 'keeper.

Despite being a player down, Hutton found a way through a switched off Blues defence and Appleton scored her second of the game.

In the final minutes of the game a yellow card was issued to the opposition’s manager who was not happy with decisions being made on the pitch and eventually Hutton went down to 10 players permanently with Hutton’s defender being sent straight off due to further dissent to the referee.

Further arguments between the referee and the visitors' bench occured after the final whistle, seeing two more red cards issued to them.

FULL TIME: Southend United Ladies 4-2 Hutton FC Ladies

The Shrimpers secured all three points, seeing Lewis Dodds’ side move up to 3rd in the table, behind Hertford and Colney Heath on goal difference alone.

The Ladies return to Garons Park this Sunday as they welcome Colney Heath in the league before travelling to east London to face Barking Women in the FA Cup.

Southend United Ladies: Molly Lee, Beth Cooper (Lauren Johnson), Jordan Castle, Danni Hindley, Amber Denton, Paige White (c) (Abbie Rex), Stevie Roberts, Hannah Smith (Ellie Wood), Chloe Woolaway, Reyes Humbles (Claudia Zajac), Ellie Nicholls
