England vs Pakistan Test Series

All this "don't worry" lark? Best start. Just watched the news on the BBC, there's talk of the News of the World providing evidence that Pakistan are throwing it.

That's odd. I watched the same report and it said that no balls we being deliberately bowled at specific times of the game, as pre-agreed by the fixers. Not quite throwing a match.

Wasn't paying much attention TBH, was in the middle of writing a blog. Took what I saw at face value and filled in the gaps.

Lots more articles up on the NOTW web-site, including claims that they've arranged to fix the result of two of the forthcoming ODIs and that the second test in Sydney between Pakistan and the Convicts, in which Pakistan dramatically collapsed was fixed.

I'm not sure I've the stomach to watch tomorrow's play now.

There is a part of me thinking that maybe the NOTW is trying to take credit for the Pakistani collapses this summer.

Unfortunately the other 99% of me is saying that there is no way in Hell that this would go anywhere near the print if there wasn't some truth in it.

So, basically, If the News of the World hadn't of been involved, then this wouldn't have happened?

No, it's an expose of what goes on.

There had been whisperings (and outright accusations) previously - remember the likes of Yousuf and Khan had been banned for "in-fighting" after a disastrous tour of Oz. Kamran Akmal was out-rightly accused of deliberately under-performing on that tour. It was put down to factionalism and trying to undermine the captain by the official inquiry, but then no-one had any faith in that inquiry anyway.

Danish Kaneria had already been accused of a similar offence whilst playing for Essex, so this was far from an isolated accusation.

It also makes you wonder about Pakistan losing to Ireland.

Yeah, for them to name 4 players seems quite telling. They say 7 were involved, but refrain from explicitly naming the others, which suggests they don't have enough proof to name them, which at the same time suggests that they have sufficient proof to accuse the other 4 in the first place.

I haven't even looked at the score today.

We won by an innings and something like 225. U Akmal top scored with 79, their next highest was 21. Incredibly depressing read the live text from the BBC. The post-match presentations were done in private too.

Much as I'd like to agree, does anyone have the right to deny the players involved their livelihood? Let's face it, these guys won't have a lot to fall back on, and if they end up being thrown out of cricket they're screwed - that young bowler Pakistan have looks a decent prospect, probably doesn't have the wits or knowhow to realise when he's getting near **** Falls in instances like this, should he be chucked out?
