That's not a great unknown IMHO, Benyon is proven at this level and was very highly-rated up until his move from Torquay. Whether he will fit well into our style is another matter although I would say Sturrock is best placed to make a judgement on that and he clearly thinks he will or he wouldn't have signed him. Let's just give the guy TIME to make an impression, too many good strikers have been hounded out of this club.

Promising signing - hopefully he'll be key in firing us to promotion!

Here here, cant argue with much of that. I just like to see players for myself before making a judgment and you never quite know how a player will perform for a particular club, that can be down to a number of factors and not just style of play. I am optimistic with this one though.

Matt Paterson v2....god let's hope not.

New signings are always a time to get excited, but let's not get too carried away.

Can't say I'm too surprised that a player signed in the January transfer window isn't available to play until, err, January.

Yeah alright smartarse. I'm well aware of why he can't play. I just said it was unfortunate that when we're in need of a striker as we are tomorrow it would have been a great opportunity for Benyon to come in and hit the ground running.

Harris and Sturrock tomorrow or Ryan Hall up top?

Lots of games as a sub in those stats on Soccerbase. Will be on the bench against Daggers I reckon, but just a winger now, and I reckon we are done, depending on who leaves.

Or is he a forward that can play on the wing? (whoops wrong manager)

If Hall is left out then we know there's been a decent bid for him.

I think people are overlooking the fact that we have to pay for Benyon and Timlin, how are we going to do that ? We're still officially losing money every month.

I disagree, if the rumours of him (Hall) turning up having had a drink or two to training on Christmas day are true then Sturrock may choose to continue him on the bench anyway. That's off topic though.

I think its a great sign that the club is willing to invest in new players, will boost the team I think having a new lad in there. A striker is what we needed, he has done it at this level before, lets hope he does it again

Can't say there's anything here that impresses me. Got a bad feeling about this signing. Hope I'm wrong. (admittedly it does happen!)

I can't see anything in this guys previous record that makes me get over excited.
As such I'm hoping Sturrock has pulled one out of the bag.

Agree that we could do with him sooner but "unfortunate" and "sods law" are two different things.

I'm about to leave for the game and hope to see all three of the players you've mentioned there.

He scored a goal every other game for Torquay. What are you expecting?

I'm not expecting anything. He had a good spell at Torquay and has had 2 indifferent spells since then at other clubs. That's why I'm simply saying I'm not over excited. Lets hope he can find form again with the blues. That said I think it would be hard for any forward to bang a load of goals for us, given the way we play, unless they were a genuine Eastwood type who could make their own. Lets not forget we already have a centre forward of genuine quality (Harris) who we haven't got the best out of yet.

We don't have a striker who scores with any regularity. I'm not sure that Benyon will be that striker either given his recent stats
ie 2 in 25 according to BBC website. Not sure what he can add given our unfortunate style
ie agricultural hoofing from the back on left side. Maybe he is used to that I don't know. I trust PS to know what's best and
hopefully Benyon will score loads.

If we had a left back who could go forward with the ball like Sean C on the right what a difference that would make.

Happy New Year and here's to a Blues promotion.
I recall Che Wilson's runs from the back or maybe my specs are rose tinted.

I
Hammill and Harding both regularly got forward in more recent times, even Scott Malone did.

does anyone else think he has been brought in to play alongside Harris ?

At the beginning of the season I presumed that Harris would be playing for only part of the game - either to start and then bring on a fresh pair of legs ...... or to come on as a wise supersub - and so I have been surprised this season at how much time Harris has been on the pitch - but that has been down to injuries to people such as Corr (and Dickinson) and suspensions to other players.

Once Benyon is match fit I would expect him to be starting alongside Dickinson with Harris (and Bilel) available as subs. This would allow the style of play to be changed as well ........

Not 100% sure about the above though ...................
