Just hope we get the ball down as he's obviously not a big targetman.

Hopefully we'll start playing football with Grant, Sawyer and Harris now... Ha!

His lack of goals recently does worry me, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. There was Barry Corr after all.

Also when are we getting this money from? Another undisclosed fee! I was told Timlin's fee was around £25k, just curious that's all. It's be good for an update on the clubs financial situation. It's been kept quiet recently.

Will be interesting to see if PS wants to change the style (or at least have the option). Just before our nightmare week, Harris and Sturrock played up front together for 45 mins and were superb - no big man there but Harris pulled the defence all over the place and everything stuck to Sturrock. If Benyon's instinct is to go for goal, whereas Blair always looks to bring others in, it might give some different options, especially should Dicko get injured/suspended.

Agreed and it's sod's law that he can't play at Wimbledon when Dicko is out.

Got to admit I'm concerned about this signing as you lot all seem to rate him and that invariably ends badly. The more talked up a signing is, the bigger the disappointment they usually are (see Harris, Neil; Johnson, Jemal et al). Still, it won't be his fault because this has been welcomed as a good signing, it'll be the manager's fault for not playing to his strengths.

He's also the anti-Timlin, because he's been on a winning side three times since 11 January (in 28 appearances for three different clubs) and his last 7 appearances have all ended in defeat. No wonder he looks bloody miserable.

You're right. As soon as we make a signing they become the best player in league 2 without kicking a ball or been seen previously according to shrimperzone. Im holding judgement for 10 or so games in. Obviously hope the lad is what we are missing. Proved at Torquay he is very capable.

Fingers crossed this all works out! Looks like he has a lot of potential at this level if played regularly. Time will tell!!

The last posts from westy and Yorkshire were in fact posted by them not me.

I do agree with what was said by them but thought it best that it wasn't printed by me. For obvious reasons. But they'll be free of thr criticism though ( no disrespect to them) because the comments were not mine.

I wouldn't say he is noted for his pace. Although being a small chap, he should be pretty quick over 20 yards and a bit tricky to deal with. He is more of a workhorse, with a genuine eye for goal. A "fox in the box" type player, who will put away chances if given them.

I cannot imagine we will change our style much. Dicko will still be the "target/hold up man" and Benyon will feed off him.

Not good news for Mr. Harris though, that's for sure...

Exactly what we need.

Yeah this is key to our play now. For me Dickinson has done really well in the air for us but isn't a targetman either. If we could get it down and play a bit more then I think we'd get the best out of both strikers and on paper have a very decent strike pairing at this level.

How has Dickinson been good in the air ?! but totally agree that we need to play the ball on the deck.

Blues set to sign Benyon

SOUTHEND United will sign striker Elliot Benyon for an undisclosed fee from Swindon Town when the transfer window opens on Monday.

This is what worries me. Our style of play just doesn't suit a 'fox in the box'. Our chosen strikers spend 80% of the time deep or in the channels. I've lost count of the amount of times a cross has been put into the mixer this season and neither of our strikers are anywhere near the six yard box to stab it into the net. They are instead watching what's going on from deep or from the channel.

Harris is a box man, and looking at the vid of his Stockport goals, Dicko also scored a large proportion of them through being in the six yard box when the ball came in. Sturrock expects his strikers to do a bit too much and, like Dicko and Harris, I suspect Benyon won't get the goals he's expected to if he's lost out in the channel when the ball goes into the box.

Well at least the fickles will have a new boo boy to target

Very much so! Some people seem unable to look beyond the player and see that perhaps they are just not suited to the chosen style. I reckon Harris would have banged more in had he been used properly. I really hope he just tells Benyon to get forward, lurk in/around the box, and pounce on anything and everything. Unfortunately I suspect we'll be seeing a lot of him 20 yards away from where he should be because he's been told to run the channels.

AAAAAAAAAHHHH! Great to see a bit of pessimism amidst all this rose-tinted optimism! Have to say, as soon as the videos appeared of him scoring buckets of goals, my heart sank!
