Benyon sounds a decent players, might be the sort of player we are looking for with our style. I don't know a lot about him but the fact that he was picked by Sturrock obviously well before the transfer window opened means he feels he will be a really good signing for us. I expect him to come of the bench tomorrow so hopefully he gets a good start.

SUFCRootsHall Southend United

The FA and FL have confirmed striker Elliot Benyon's transfer to Southend United today. Benyon will be available vs Dagenham tomorrow.

We don't have a striker who scores with any regularity. I'm not sure that Benyon will be that striker either given his recent stats
ie 2 in 25 according to BBC website. Not sure what he can add given our unfortunate style
ie agricultural hoofing from the back on left side. Maybe he is used to that I don't know. I trust PS to know what's best and
hopefully Benyon will score loads.

If we had a left back who could go forward with the ball like Sean C on the right what a difference that would make.

Happy New Year and here's to a Blues promotion.
I recall Che Wilson's runs from the back or maybe my specs are rose tinted.

I

I'm not sure you want two full-backs in the Sean Clohessy mould. I think teams tend to be better balanced when they have one attacking and one defensive full-back. Unless you are Brazil and play two holding midfielders.

Are you getting confused with Che Wilson running backwards? He only crossed the halfway line if it was a rout.

My Torquay mate rates Benyon as follows

"Fox in the box - good finisher but useless if you lump it up to him. I dont rate him but he could do a job for you. Will run his socks off - a poor mans Michael Owen"

I fear he isnt the man we really need.. unless we change the way we play, and thats risky at this stage of the season

A decent review if you consider he doesn't rate him. Look forward to seeing how this one works out, I still think Timlin and Hall could feed him well enough, especially away from home.

So the review is Benyon is useless if you lump it up to him ........... well, that will do for me! :happy:Perhaps I won't have to visit the chiropractor to fix my neck if the ball isn't being "lumped" forward so much .........

........... but seriously, we have other players who can hold the ball and midfield players who, at times, are more than capable of playing in and playing off a good running striker.

I shall reserve judgement until I have seen at least 4 minutes of him on the pitch ......... and that was twice as long as it took me to make a judgement on Paynter ........:winking:

Seen Benyon a few times. He won't score many from balls from the wing, but is a great finisher when fed from the midfield. Hoofball is out also. Hope P.S. can change our style completely to suit, and stop the midfield from always passing sideways to the wing.

Lets face it, with us these days its either an eastwood or a paynter situation. If the guy goes three games without scoring he'll be rinsed on here!
He can obviously score a goal, and sturrock rates him, in our position its probably the best we could have hoped for right now. It will depend on how well he gels with the players around him, and a lot of luck.

Hopefully he'll be banging them in asap

Unless his name is Neil Harris!:winking:

Touche . Although that nifty little touch for the fourth against the wombles still gives me faint hope that if we give Harris the ball on the floor in the box, he's more then likely to get it on target. Whether we will start to do this, or carry on lumping it forward remains to be seen.

Benyon's on a goal mission

ELLIOT Benyon wants to get back among the goals with Southend United – starting with his debut against Dagenham and Redbridge this afternoon.

Shows that this isn't a rush buy, long term target for Sturrock so he must be a big fan! Really good to see he is determined, I know players have to say the good things to journalists but it's nice to hear. Heres hoping he gets some game time today and maybe even a goal.

Thought he looked good on Monday, held the ball up well and found a blue shirt 99% of the time. We all know we didn't play to his strengths but forgetting that for now, looks a good little striker.

Don't worry we'll soon coach that out of him :raspberry:
