Damien Scannel

ricky otto is easily the best winger I seen at the hall and if this bloke is half as good I will certainly be moist for the second half of the season.....yes I said moist

Until he signs they wont publish it and rightly so.

They said last night in the AGM (per that thread) they were in discussions to sign a non league winger so sounds like it hasnt been finalised yet.

Echo would'nt print this page about Southend signed D. Scannel if it not true. Seen him play agasint Thurrock & I was impressed, I reckon he will improve our strikeforce or on wings as defencers hate playing agasint pace.

Well, both the local papers are reporting it as a done deal. Indeed, in the Southern Daily Echo, the report continues on in the newspaper from where it stopped in the internet edition (link on page 4 of this thread and now above) as follows:

Eastleigh director/co-assistant manager Paul Doswell said: "And on the other hand, if it doesn't work out for him at Southend I'm sure he'd come back to us because he's really enjoyed it here. From a footballing perspective, myself, Ian Baird (manager) and David Hughes (co-assistant manager) are all disappointed to lose him, but we've done what's best for Damian and Eastleigh under the circumstances."

The good news for Eastleigh fans is that they haven't quite seen the last of Scannell. Although he has agreed terms with Southend, they can't finalise the deal until the transfer window opens in January. It means he should be available for the Christmas games away to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday and home to Basingstoke Town on Boxing Day.

So it looks a pretty done deal. But I don't know how these pre-window agreements work - could a club with more money approach him with a higher wage offer and lure him away???

Assuming this is all done and dusted and no other club is able to poach him, I hope he doesn't get injured between now and Jan 1st.

One question, would he be available to play on NYD? Is it possible to complete the paperwork in time?
