Dale farm evictions "may breach human rights"

Having listened to local radio news this morning, they're apparently refusing to leave and intend to chain themselves to the barricades. How come they're happy to use the law (and its many levels of appeal processes) to suit them when things are in their favour, but when the law has decided against them, they're now refusing to abide by it? No surprise really, and by refusing to co-operate the Council ought to now give them clear warning of the consequences of their action and let them know that any injury that might occur as a result of non co-operation is non claimable!

Considering that they said a few weeks back that they have a few surprises in store for the bailiffs if they try to evict them, I would be more worried about injury if I was a bailiff. They are meant to have things like large gas canisters at the ready. Pray God they don't use them.

When they lose the next time wasting appeal, can they then appeal again about that decision?
A few from the church are getting involved. Perhaps as maybe the largest land owners in the land, they would like to give them somewhere else to live.
It was pointed out on the radio this morning that Prescott gave them 2 years grace to move off the illegal plots. Did they move? No, a lot more moved in.

With the council letting 5 plots stay there and the fencing and gates , even if they manage to move the other lot off how long before they start creeping back or will they put full time guards in place....if a few get back in surely the whole process will just start again...

I don't think guards can do anything - the council doesn't own the land.

I fully expect that if/once the families do leave, the Gypsy council will simply apply continuously for planning permission over and over again until eventually someone caves in, no doubt funded for by the taxpayer. Its probably got a bit too high profile for them to simply mover back in... but then they are a cheeky bunch.

What surprised me is that when a bunch of them previosuly left a couple of weeks ago, none of the local residents tried to block there re-entry when they started returning.

They are pikies /travellers their not to do with the Rom Gypsy council ? Also they distanced themselves from them ??

How could the local residents do that? Police would've arrested them.

Then why is Richard Sheridan the President and Candy Sheridan the Vice Chair of The Gypsy Council? Oh and Mr Sheridan is also President of the Dale Farm Housing Association and has been living on the site for the past five years and is also regarded by some areas of the media as one of the travelers main spokespersons.

Slightly strange if what you say is true.

You mean as an individual with personal vested interest ?or did he say he represented the whole council (council is plural btw ).

Well accourding to their website a Jospeth P Jones is the Chairperson ? http://www.gypsy-association.co.uk/gypsycouncil.html the vice chair is correct .

Their website hasn't been updated in months. A quick Google and a flicker through the recent media has him as the current president. Also, I didn't say he was the Chairperson, I said he was the President, which he is. He represents the Dale Farm travelers in media reports and also went on a resent trip to Brussels to put their case. The travelers at Dale Farm and The Gypsy Council are intrinsically linked through both Richard and Candy Sheridan.

You make the distinction between the Romany Gypsies and the, and I quote, 'pikies/travellers' in your post but it's a distinction that's not made by the Gypsy Council.

You may be getting confused with these http://www.grtleeds.co.uk/information/GypsyCouncil.html who are indeed Romany Gypsies who have nothing to do with Dale farm

#dalefarm travellers' case back in court on Monday. Lord Justice Sullivan will decide whether to grant a full Court of Appeal hearing

The link posted is from the same sight . Seems odd they have a Chairperson (and the vice is the same as yo mentioned but make no mention of their president ?). The Rom are traditionally made up of tribes and tehir "elders" reside on teh councils . Who knows maybe it is maybe it isn't but seems rather odd that the man claiming to be president resides on the Dale Famr site ;) . And Rom make a distinction

What is the latest with the pikeys then?

I know Cricko is out shopping with his better half but an update on the other lot of pikeys would be most helpful.

Residents of Dale Farm, the UK's largest illegal travellers' site, were today refused permission to appeal against a High Court ruling that gave Basildon Council the go-ahead to evict them.

Court of Appeal judge Lord Justice Sullivan said the travellers could not challenge a decision made last week by Mr Justice Ouseley.

The ruling was the latest decision in a long legal fight over the future of the greenbelt site near Basildon, Essex
.

TRAVELLERS living at Dale Farm have lost their latest bid to stop Basildon Council evicting them.

Residents of the UK's largest illegal travellers' site were today refused permission to appeal against a High Court ruling giving the council the go-ahead to evict them.

However the council has said it will take a couple of days to get resources in place to carry out the planned eviction.

FULL STORY AND REACTION IN TOMORROW'S ECHO.

my faith in British justice is somewhat restored by this good news. The grounds for appeal were apparently that the last judge was biased against the non traveling travellers because he had heard a case dealing with the Hovefields site some years ago. What a blooming cheek.

Fantastic news. Now it's about time for them to respect the law which they have (ab)used to their advantage throughout this whole affair and leave quietly. Instead, they have gone into "lockdown", demonstrating perfectly the sort of low life that they really are. Give them 60 minutes to get out then send in the bulldozers.
