Dale farm evictions "may breach human rights"

Until any of this so-called "evidence" you refer to is actually proven, it would seem to me that the Echo is just running a populist campaign against the travellers ,which as they are fully aware, will boost circulation as it panders nicely to local predjudice.
Having said that I'll be happy to buy a copy at the weekend, though I've never found it worth reading for anything other than footy reports(and often not even that).

Why do you need things you hope aren't true to "be proven" and then blindly accept any tosh in the Guardian as gospel?
My guess is that the Echo reporter will get a journo award for this. Nationals have picked up on his "evidence" and are publishing. I believe he already has one award in his back pocket for his expose of the dodgy lethal sofas they were flogging from Poland.
But remember they have contributed as much as you and I to this wonderful society we live in.

That is precisely what I did not do.
I would certainly hope there is a difference between people who vote Tory and right wing extremists, which is the term I originally used.

You are right you didn't. You did though say that you considered people to the right (whatever that means) to be vermin. Nice generalisations and 'progressive' views.

Anyway, lets get things back on track boys.

Yes.In the context of agreeing with a well known quotation from Nye Bevan.
I fully agree with your plea, btw.

Actually, I said contribute no more or less to society than anyone who posts on SZ.
I would agree that this particular post of yours is certainly not mindless.

I fundamentally disagree with you. I don't know who you are to suggest that they contribute more or less to society. I think each individual of society should be judged on their own merits and not be stereotyped because of their backgrounds. For the purpose of debates I generally don't have much problem of using the traveller stereotype, does anyone have a good word to say about them? So on that note lets begin the stereotype and my thoughts:

They (pikeys) essentially have the motto "no one likes us but we don't care" (Millwall FC) because they don't want any outsiders urinating on their parade. They marry within, they have their own standards etc. However, if they want to come to the UK, not pay tax, co-operate under different names, steal our copper, come down my road in removal vans etc looking around for stuff to nick then it sure is my business to point out that for the hours of work I put back into society raising money and awareness for charity, putting my bins out on a Thursday as opposed to fly tipping, that I do indeed as do the many law obiding citizens on SZ, offer more to society than these travellers. Just saying.

There goes the UN Support angle

Yves Cabannes is the former head of the UN's advisory group on forced evictions and todays Echo has a peice saying that the UN have distanced themselves from the opinions of the ex official.

Apologies if I misled people with my quote from the ex UN fella - missed the bit that said he was ex UN.

this thread makes me wanna

This thread makes me wanna use the admin functions to close it.

Rusty / Barna - rather than directing your energies at each other, can I please ask both of you to direct them at the issue in hand (namely as to the propriety or otherwise of the eviction at Dale Farm)?

I don't want to lock this thread, but if you can't both respond to this polite request of mine, I will do so.

Many thanks,

Matt

To be fair to Barna - as its him against about six others and he can't really walk away without get slated for doing that, but everyone else can as it stopped being of interest about 400 posts ago.

Well he could apologise for branding the rest of us equal to a bunch of pikeys, and if you lost interest 400 posts ago why are you still reading it?

Just seen in the Echo,Basildon council might move the travellers onto the Craylands estate, those poor people are in for a shock, the crime rate on the estate is appalling, call in the UN i say.

Well he could apologise for branding the rest of us equal to a bunch of pikeys, and if you lost interest 400 posts ago why are you still reading it?

You miss the point that I was including myself in that comparison -to the effect that we're all human.(And in case what exactly has that got to do with "the propriety or otherwise of the eviction at Dale Farm)?"

To be fair to BarnaBlue he does seem to be trying to adopt a more conciliatory tone - maybe after 30 pages it would be a good opporunity to close this and put us all out of our misery

Because its in the 'recent posts' collumn on the left hand side of the front page that I go to every time I'm bored at work - which is often. But its not making me less bored.

Hang on a mo. So because you include yourself in your analogy it's ok then is it? And what the hell has being human got to do with their contributions to society being the same as mine. Barna, here's a couple of questions I'd ask you to answer please.

In the context of contributing financially and morally to the general upkeep and well being of the nation through taxes etc, do you consider their contributions to society to be the same as mine? And just so as we're clear. I've spent 32 years in continuous employment and all the while paid my tax and NI.

Do you believe that certain laws become unenforceable and/or null and void because they may impinge on a member of societies choice to live a certain way either by choice, circumstance or tradition.

Just askin like.

(And in case what exactly has that got to do with "the propriety or otherwise of the eviction at Dale Farm)?"

Hang on, are you now criticising me for going off topic? Your first post on this thread was to start a political debate and I quote (in bold so you dont ignore it) "um..this is not right wing?"

Perhaps you could tell me how that comment was relevant to the Dale Farm eviction, or alternatively just ignore the question as you always do when your'e struggling.
