Or, people could calm down a bit. It doesn’t help when it’s on the news and social media 24/7 with all the various conspiracy theories.

Sure, I hear ya, and I don’t disagree.

But telling people to calm down in an unprecedented situation, when there is so much confusion as to what they should do, is the same as telling the sun not to set at the end of the day.

What pub?
And I never realised people went to the pub to watch TV I go for a good beer and chat, talk balls with mates, acquaintances and strangers .

Travellers joy in Rayleigh, it's a Greene King pub. TBH I do the same as you and was being a bit faceitous, if football's on it's a bonus.

Although that's the advice, it's not going to happen. People are stocking up, as they hear what's happening in other countries. With the different stages of isolation, then eventually leading to lockdown in some area's.
So I just wish the government would accept panic buying is inevitable, and won't stop for a while, and get together with the supermarkets to limit people to maybe 2 of everything.
I saw today a ridiculous situation of a lady having 5 toilet roll packs of 9 in her trolley. That should not be allowed to happen. And like I said earlier in a post, well off parents buying all the baby milk in bulk is no joke, leaving so many without any. My friend said he went to 6 supermarkets today to get some baby milk for his daughter. He got none. So again, the governments advice that there's plenty of stock for everyone is not holding up, as certain things have run out. There's been no hand gel for two weeks, even tho an MP came on the tele and said we should all carry one around with us.

Basic common sense should surely tell you that bulk buying 5 packs of 9 toilet rolls is bordering on the ridiculous but you can see why it’s going on. All this media hysteria, news flashes from Italy, threatened lockdowns, “it’s gonna get way, way worse” kinda stuff. Panic breeds panic and it’s a domino effect. Therefore, everyone’s anxious. It’s a pity that, in effect, rationing will probably need to happen..it has already with toilet rolls. This hasn’t been since since the Second World War. This is a generation who order shopping online at the click of a button and are used to getting what they want and take their direction (some) from Twitter and Facebook and 24/7 news channels. It’s a tough one to get a hold of for sure...difficult to know the solution as rationing won’t be handled well I don’t think.

The rationing is only in some supermarkets, and much too late. In others it's first come first served, as many as you want.

For how long? Not much longer I’d suggest. It’ll have to be enforced unless people stop panicking. Wish people would ease off on the scaremongering. Even Sky Sports News tonight is full of “what might happen”. I know they have space to fill. I’ve even seen quotes from Koontz “The Eyes of Darkness” on social media. Crazy.

When you think that all this panic buying only started a week or so ago, & yet we've still got a predicted est of another probable 3 months before it peaks?.
Doubt no-one has a clue how this will escalate in forthcoming weeks, subject to Government implementing temporary limits on certain items?.
Just looks like total chaos will ensue?.

The government has to meet all the supermarkets in the next couple of days and put a limit on things. Someone who went to Tesco Prince Avenue said there was a queue of about 500 waiting to get in today, and dinner time it was mobbed with lots of empty shelves. He said it was mayhem. That news will spread by those that were there, creating more panic buying this week. They can't stop the panic buying because of the worsening news every day, but they can deal with the panic buying in a more controlled way.

I really can’t take all the **** meme’s and jokes on social media anymore. If it’s not that it’s all the ‘experts’ who have an answer for the problem. I just want to know what Sarah is having for dinner and see a picture of Steve’s dog sleeping.

So strange watching the Gibraltar open snooker final on the tele, with no crowd, because of the virus. I kept waiting for a round of applause after a brilliant shot, but there was complete silence, Lol. Judd Trump as a joke, held up the trophy to an imaginary crowd.

I think the supermarkets will impose some item maximums but also think that the issue might ease off a bit. If you buy loads of toilet roll and pasta and start using it at the normal rate it’s going to still be overflowing from cupboards next week and so hopefully replenishments will mean greater normal availability.

meanwhile ...

the stock markets, the money markets and financial institutions are ..... ?

Did all the world banks have a meet up today ?

weird times ...

Not surprisingly, as parents we are more concerned for our daughter and her partner and his daughter than we are for ourselves. They both work on the NHS front line, he in Birmingham Childrens Hospital operating theatre and her as a counsellor seeing under 18 clients and lecturing at Derby Uni. They stand far more chance of picking stuff up than we. By the way, we have told them to bugger off if they were thinking of coming down at Easter...........just in case.:Winking:

Think us "oldies" are more likely to pick up something from the youngsters than the other way round but in general I agree.

One report is they have shut the last of the makeshift hospitals in China because they only had 19 new cases.

One minute even Doctors with all the right protective gear and precautions are dropping dead and then its all ok.

Have a look at the Guardian video of the really 'busy' Chinese hospital.......Someone is having a chuckle at us lot.

There is growing suspicion that China might not be reporting truthfully
SHOCKER!

Human nature. People panic when they’re scared.

What wouldn’t go amiss right now, if there was some clarity from the goverment & supermarkets, regarding the issue.

I.e. we plan to stay open, we’re doubling down on stock, we have contingency plans in place for staff shortages etc etc.

There has been clarification, but selfish people have chosen to ignore sound advice from scientists and doctors and now we have F*** you Jack I’m alright spreading around the country.
Like I’ve said before, this doesn’t surprise me at all.
Further to this, I expect if this does escalate like they fear then you may well see troops on the streets in certain areas to maintain order. There are people/groups who will use the climate of fear for their own purposes. We are all about to learn an awful lot about the country we live in in the next weeks and months.
The Dunkirk spirit feels a long way away at the moment.

I agree in the main. But I don’t think there’s been a great level of communication, from the Government to us, specifically regarding the panic buying issue.

How much extra panic, has the rumours that over 70’s could be forced to isolate, caused? How many more people will be racing to supermarkets now, to stock up on stuff for their elderly family members?

So far, I’d say the Goverment has handled this badly, on the whole.

Schools still open. Flights continued coming in from quarantined areas. Even on Thursday, Boris said the football would continue, when most people could see that there wasn’t any realistic chance of that actually happening.

These are the people we’re forced to wait on, for help and advice? Is it any wonder that sane people have gone mad?

Of course, I can’t excuse those people who have gone OTT. That’s just downright selfish and wrong. Nobody needs a years-worth of toilet paper, or half-a-tonne of baked beans.

Major US cities will join the list of places in lockdown today.

You know it’s bad when Las Vegas goes into panic mode, because that place doesn’t shut for ****.

Currently, some of their biggest and most famous hotels are shutting down.
