There ain't anything worse than being dead.
It’s a tough, very tough call and I’m glad I’m not a politician. I see the restrictions have been extended for 3 weeks, after that let’s see. As for sporting events, where do you even start to organise those safely. A vaccine or mass community testing look ages away.

Hearing that we estate agents may be one of the first allowed back. Makes sense as people still need to move and we can exercise a certain amount of sensible procedures - also expect people will be making their own drinks which is good news for me!

The general concensus on vaccines is that there won't be one until next year at the earliest. Community testing? that will be the next hot potato for our leaders.

Yes but the market is likely to contract hugely -and not just here.

They mention an 8% fall in prices in Barna. In El Pais at the weekend they were talking about a 15% drop in prices in Madrid.

Here in Blighty it wont change much. A short dip is possible but people wont be able to move for a while and I don't see the government allowing any evictions etc. Supply is way behind demand, including rentals.

Isn’t the bottleneck with conveyancers and surveyors rather than agents?

Maybe but it would be unwise to ignore trends elsewhere.Last week an Estate Agent's in Sète phoned my wife up just to chat (she's long expressed an interest in buying an apartment there and would be a cash buyer). Sounds like hard times all around.

Similar drop figures touted here.....A stamp duty break is also being mentioned as a way to kick start the market in the Uk

I disagree, I think schools (especially primary schools and nurseries) will be one of the first things to re-open.

Buses rammed, parents hanging around school gates. Not sure how social distancing will remain during this time!? I certainly don’t see them going back before May HT.

May HT is what I have my eye on. I think schools will be asked to encourage social distancing in the playground at drop off/pick up. for anything to begin to move back to normal, nurseries and primary schools are really important as everything goes from there in terms of childcare and being able to work

Allow me to explain.....

I have a wall hung toilet, one of those that is bolted to a frame through the tiles with a hidden system. The system developed a leak and slowly weakened the plasterboard behind the tiles. As the you sit on the toilet the weight is cantilivered onto the bottom tiles. They eventually and suddenly cracked and forced through the plasterboard, leaving me unable to use the toilet.

To fix it i had to remove toilet, all the wet board and then dry out the wooden frame we built around the metal one in order to take the plasterboard.

This time I made a better job, extra horizontal support just where the bottom of the toilet hits the wall. Marine ply instead of plasterboard and a nice little cash job to replace about 1meter of tiles ( kept some spare in the shed) for a certain Stuart Wyles who does my tiling. Many of the old school on here will know him.....He was chased and arrested for invading the pitch at home to Watford, i think it was, in about 1978. It wasn't intentional, he thought it was the final whistle when the ref had just given a foul with seconds to go.....The police had a good laugh about it and let him go.....Dont worry he works on his own and was in a room on his own and cut the tiles outside on his own in my garden.

Toilet back on but it won't go quite as tight. Not wanting to overt tighten the awkward and temperamental fittings (if they snapped it would be a disaster) i decided a beed of clear mastic around the whole toilet shape would make it nice and tight to the wall.....If anyone has other ideas please feel free to comment.

Now the problem is I don't have any mastic so the range is the best option for me. So that was one reason for my reckless shopping trip.

Reason 2..... My mother has a low red blood cell count, linked to a lack of iron and other things. She is 85 and has dementia......Getting her to take medicine and tablets is very difficult even if you border on force she will spit it out. About 20 months ago she needed 2 quarts of blood in a transfusion. The head man dealing with her, I nick named him Shaft, as he was a no nonsense, my kind of Docter and also black. Said if the tablets etc don't work the come back for another transfusion.

My mother is now struggling with her cardiovascular and feels the cold even indoors in this weather. She should be having another transfusion but e don't want to risk a hospital stay at the moment. Nor do we want to tie up vital NHS staff.....Its a tough one to decide both options put her at risk but we are also thinking of others who are in an even more serious situation than our mum.

When i went round to their house with supplies yesterday, I went down the side ally and sat in the garden, not just 2 but more like 8 meters away. I got her to come out in the sun, she still had to wear a jacket but she warmed up and it did her good. I noticed how dated and rubbish the garden furniture is. They are not mean to people but like many from that generation they wont throw things out if they are not broke, even thought he umbrella is.

So whilst I was in the range I thought I would buy some decent reclining chairs and new table so that 2 elderly people can enjoy a much needed visits from their family. Its a real struggle for my step dad so if people stay longer thats a good thing.

You see their time in a chair is more vital than anyones walk and my time on the throne, although could be deemed a luxury is much more fun than a bucket.

The moral of the story is....Be careful all you self appointed curtain twitchers because you have no idea about other peoples lives......You don't know how important 12 hours drying time on a beed of mastic is to some of us.

I raise a tinny to all you shrimpers whatever your sacrifice.

Reason 1. Sod all that, i'd have got a professional in to do the lot!.
Reason 2. Good for you Rigsby.

China "ups" it's death figures by 50% over night?
What can be believed from them? And how realistic are their figures? The virus would have ripped thru their slave work camps and that certainly won't be in any figures.

Africa, India, South America are just getting started on the virus.

Maybe, just, Europe and UK will get a handle on this for the next few months but elsewhere it is going to get hellish pdq for millions or 100s of millions.

There has been some recent noises and words on collaboration between pharma companies AND a further push down this tie up is sharply needed, internationally,
Any firm that does find the vaccine must know that they will do well out of it BUT they won't have a monopoly patent right.

There ain't anything worse than being dead.

The trouble with death is it's so very final, isn't it? :Winking:

Certainly the much vaunted economic recovery after lockdown restrictions are lifted is not going to be helped by those who 've died from coronavirus. They won't be contributing in any shape or form to any upturn in GDP.

Isn’t the bottleneck with conveyancers and surveyors rather than agents?

Not sure, surveyors possibly, but certainly conveyancers and solicitors are working satisfactorily from home. We also know that searches are being completed as we had some reported as back by one conveyancer earlier this week.

Surveyors can take reasonable precautions, especially if the home owners can be out for their walk while they are there.

The bottleneck is more likely to be if you have an online agent in your chain with their own "specialist" conveyancers.

We had two completions last week, one of which was a simultaneous with a chain of 4, which I'd have hated being involved in! In both cases the chains couldn't wait so they all chose to go ahead.

Like many others I suspect but who obey the rules and keep the virus at bay
Still if it feels good for you then carry on and don’t complain when we have further lockdown and snowflakes are blamed

Keep safe until then
