Post-Match Thread and Ratings Chelmsford City 0-1 Southend United, pre-season friendly

Slightly worrying that he's still carrying/ feeling the effects of a hamstring injury he had at the back end of last season with QPR.
Nice write up here.

Hints that he's had his share of injuries though, perhaps thats why he's with us...

Well I hope he’s got 3 or 4 more signings in mind as this negative mob just ain’t good enough. Why oh why doesn’t he look to take this poor League apart with an attacking midfielder and strength in depth strikers? Cardwell is made of balsa wood, Walton has not exactly pulled up trees but fair play Walker looks a decent signing.
Jack Bridge is never going to get out the habit of twisting and turning 6 times so imo needs benching as well to get in someone a bit more direct and creative.
Well shot of the rat so this season is the time to get out, no standout teams and a chance to massively improve on last year’s potential top 7 (in theory) position….not sure the manager sees it like that?
I've been away from SZ for a long time, family matters changed my priorities. In the main it's nice to be back, and see so many of the respected and insightful posters who I remember fondly are still here.... And then there's Wiggy 🙄 I can't honestly say that I've lain awake at night wishing I could reacquaint myself with his almost pathological negativity, but I have to admit to a grudging respect for his longevity, and his consistency. Just a shame he's still as wrong now as he was then.

90% of people hated Gareth Southgate’s style of football, 70% of wet shams supporters hated Moyes’s tripe and if they are honest (no chance) on here most are not a fan of Maher’s management style and recruitment this year so far. As stated above, this is a golden chance to get out this year but as usual he is collecting defenders to barricade the goal and try to nick games 1-0, don’t get it?
The content of this post is utter garbage.

Who else is our there though that we could bring in now at the right price? We need a player that's ready now and one could argue a player that could potentially go straight into the team.
I wonder if Reece Brown ex FGR might be worth running the rule over. Has struggled a bit for game time the last few years but a talented player with experience at higher levels. A touch inconsistent though.

Thought we played a nice, solid pre season game yesterfey. No risks taken, all about the fitness i thought Chelmsford looked decent, and gave us a game. So good luck to them for the coming campaign.

As others have said, we barely got out of first gear. No problem with that, as we don't want any more injuries. Walker looks impressive, a definite upgrade for Powell. We do need the Leonard-esquire creative attacking midfielder still, but not at the expense of the team spirit. Seems that man may be Pedler.of the others, Vind looks like a decent prospect and will be a good addition.

I think people might have forgotten quite how depleted we were last seaon, and we would still have been soldly in the playoffs without the 10 point deduction. That solidness looks set to continue, a few more goals to be added and realistically one or two new strategic signing should do it.

Overall, it was a good afternoon out and I am really excited for the start of this season!

I’ve not seen any pre season, so forgive me.
The point of attacking midfielder.. I thought we had players who already fitted that role? Bridge, Coker, wood, Beau? If they don’t have that mindset, isn’t that what three coaches should be changing? (Ok, maybe not king crab Kev)…
Would getting another midfielder in just end up playing it safe as that’s the way the team think?

I really thought he would push on. Seemed a great talent early on. As we always see in football, talent isn't everything.

Are you saying this is a safety first team whilst suggesting moving Bridge from a defensive position to attacking midfield?

Well.. how can I answer what you’ve just said. But, yes.
Tbf, we know bridge can’t defend.. let’s not pretend (almost a lyric there).. I love Kev as a gaffer.. as a tactical genius, I’m not so confident
