Freddy gets to return to Roots Hall with his new club and say farewell to his old cub.

i was mearly jesting to lighten the atmosphear of the topic. And yes, your quite right the Echo is the right place and as such an email has been sent asking for their source to the said artical.

I could always just phone Chris Philips and ask but that's way to simple a solution

You may haver noticed that I have zero sense of humour and take following SUFC far too seriously.

Does anyone want me to call the club on this?

However dissapointing or not our centerary match opposition will be I personally think every single one of us owe it to Southend Utd to turn up.

Have to agree there BS. I'm thouroughly hacked off at this but I for one will be there on the day. As you say we owe it to the history of the club and the players both past and present.
I just wish the club had realised long ago how much they owed it to the name of Southend United FC and its supporters.

Good shout. We could be playing Grimsby for it but as long as we have a sellout crowd, it'll be a popular event.

I'm far more perterbed by the day than the opposition. What's going to happen on the following weekend if this does turn out to be the truth?

In spite of Barry Conlon, you should remember it's not the club's duty to make you laugh.

oh...

Just add my two-penneth....last year I got all excited and grabbed tickets for MK Dons vs Athletico Madrid expecting to see some big names and cracking football.

Athletico played their youth team and I would of seen a better game on Hackney Marshes with two pub teams playing.

Therefore, even IF the centenary match is against an European club or a Premier$hite or Scottish Prem it's bound to be the same turgid affair because they won't risk an injury to their first team.

I remember seeing the likes of Barnet play arsenal last year and even though not all of arsenals first squad were there, there was still 4-5 like reyes, van persie etc.

I think most people will be there on the night ( not day) but having been given two dates by the club I am disappointed, and the opposition is not great.

To attend my son and I have to spend £500 getting back from holiday for a night and then returning so it looks like this is a non-starter for me.

It will bne interesting to see how many do show up, contrasting views on here.

I'm still not buying this one. If it does go ahead on a weekday then I have greatly under-estimated the clubs credentials to plan and arrange events regardless of the opposition. Common sense springs to mind

i would have rather see a southend current versus southend old boys team
that would have been nice and not involved convicing a premiership or european big boy
to be honest i dont give a f%&k about seeing some overpaid tw&ts taking the spotlight off of our lads and a our past lads

seeing roycey, andy ansah, chrissy powel, collymore etc would have been a far greater day for me - celebrate past and present
get all the even older boys out too for 10mins

they could play in the retro kit (available soon in the club shop alongside 2006 calendars) and current team in brand new kit....

hmmm just my thouhgts!!!
