Brexit negotiations thread

Don't you at least have some sympathy with this conclusion?

"Above all, we need a new generation of political leaders, rather than a leader of the opposition nearly in his seventies and a prime minister in her sixties. We need political leaders with a stake in the future to lead us out of this mess to a new sense of optimism. "

All he's asking for is a new Tony Blair to emerge.Fortunately, there isn't one.

I personally don't buy into the sentiment that if you are old you don't have a stake in the future. Sure politicians invest in short-term-ism because they have to show some impact in the present, but older people want to leave a good legacy. Environmentalism wouldn't exist if people didn't care about what happens after they are gone.

I can remember first hearing that line in America when I was driving around in the early 70's (it was a poplar bumper sticker). They were however at warat the time in Vietnam. We¡'re just leaving the EU.
We are you ain't your stuck with it,never mind though you might get a few snowflakes join you but don't hold you breath, now there's a thought.

I've told you people again and again that as a UK passport holder I'm fully entitled to an opinion on the UK's inept and incompetent Brexit. Also that I'm a reluctant Leaver.Just unhappy about the way the whole Brexit mess has been handled.Quite frankly,I'm glad I'm no longer living in the UK,especially when anyone can see how badly HMG is handling Brexit.

your opinion counts for nothing in GB,your just a sad old git playing out your time in a sun kissed dump which is likely to get worse when we **** off from Brussels.

Nissan expected to announce they're cancelling their planned investment to produce a new car model in Sunderland - think the Govt gave a letter with lots of promises and assurances to Nissan shortly after the Brexit vote to win this investment. Seems the letter Nissan received wasn't worth the paper it was written on.

I wondered how long it would be before someone posted something on this without posting the full facts of the story.

Labour has said it's an "inevitable role that Brexit plays here". Pure conjecture but expected flanel.

BBC business reporter puts it more in perspective. "The reasons for the cancellation are not known, but the industry as a whole has been warning Brexit uncertainty might hit investment.

Nissan refused to comment on rumours and conjecture.

Government insisted no "financial compensation" had been offered.

Now, with all that said it's worth noting that last April Nissan announced they were cutting hundreds of jobs at the Sunderland plant because of declining diesel sales. The X Trail, which is what's being cancelled is a diesel. And it's not being moved to another country or postponed until some time after Brexit when the implications can be better assessed. It's being cancelled which suggests to me the market for big 3.2 litre diesel 4x4 has either stagnated or dropped.

Still, makes for a good BBC story huh.

Leaving aside your ageist insult, why you or anyone else should think that other EU states should be worse off when the UK finally leaves the EU,frankly I've no idea.

BTW, Spain is very far from being "a sun kissed dump." You're just revealing your own ignorance and contempt with comments of this sort.

This post pretty much rips apart the input of half of Shrimperzone. If you have to be in the middle of something to have an opinion then all the non football threads are pretty much redundant and the Southend United threads would only be valid for season ticket holders who go to away games.

Your input is largely cussing other people. How about you offer up an opinion and back it up with some real data rather than just slagging others?

A perfect illustration of why the UK is now poised to jump off a cliff, blindfolded, bound and gagged.

That's because we don't scare easily. Even if we have no legs we will still fight the Nazis. Unbreachable dams,,,,No such thing when you combine British ingenuity, honour and courage.

We all know that from Sunday afternoon films. Shame you Brit hating foreigners haven't learnt your lesson......Still just like the blitz in 1940/41, Brexit has given the people of Europe hope.....If Britain can stand up to them then so can we.

On that note I'm off to France for a while. Its an International effort to end tyranny.

P.S. I know you hate all things in British history and cant wait to sneer given any opportunity but Vietnam was nothing to do with us...….So pointless mentioning it on this thread.

Sorry but that scene's already been done before ....as comedy gold.

Indeed it was a Labour PM,Harold Wilson, who refused to commit even a battalian to aid US troops despite LBJ's frequent pleas.
