Brexit negotiations thread

And yet he wants out, and still takes EU subs on his farm which he is opposed too

Strange rule by someone so strongly opposed to EU

Seeing as we all go without to fund European businesses and debts to the tune of £10b per year. I don't have a problem with one of Britain's self made success stories getting funding from the EU. After all he employs lots of people and as we now know is in the top 3 tax payers in our country.

The extreme far left politics of envy and hate end up making people not only blinkered but so predictable as well.
Nothing far left about a desire tor social justice. Nothing to admire about a businessman who has milked the system for all he can get and then moves his operations to where labour is cheapest.

I have been a union member for 35 years, including branch rep and have been to untold meetings, votes and marches etc.

I know exactly who is far left and their thinking, your all clones who cant think for themselves. You want social justice, you want others to pay for everything and you despise every single person you deem wealthy, Tory, successful or even if they don't agree with you...…..In other words all the people you want to pay for your social justice.

So the James Dyson Foundation, which funds Alzheimers Research in addition to over £20M (do date) to create engineering facilities and develop new course programmes at UK universities, as well as the awards they run in over 20 countries to encourage and support young aspiring engineers to deliver innovations and progress their careers - none of this dims in any way your view that he is a leech who basically fills his boots through nefarious means and the more he can rob / harm others the better?

Spoken like a character out of The Ragged Trousered Philanthopists who just didn't get the money trick.

Good for him. Charities are good for tax avoidance.

You are riddled with far left bigotry. You are no better than than the far right extremists you despise. See you’re mate Tangled’s horse shoe theory.

I don't know what this is, but I have an idea what it might be getting at and if it's what I think it is then Tangled has a very good point indeed. In the most extreme cases, the ends almost (or do) touch and form a complete circle of political view - early 20th century central European 'national socialism' for example...

Alas,it's not a theory I can claim any credit for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_theory

but something that's always made a lot of sense to me.Something for those of us at both ends of the poltical spectrum, both far-left and far-right,to be aware of and think about.

Thanks Tangled. That's quite interesting and I'll have to do a bit more reading on this. I note the reference to Simon Choat, who while making a very valid and correct point manages himself to overlook the quite clear truism in politics that 'my enemy's enemy is my friend', amply demonstrated by the current Italian coalition government.

As there isn't an important extreme left and right in the UK ( is it because they find a place in the traditional parties?) you may be on more fertile ground to look here, over the Channel. Mélenchon broke away from the traditional socialists and formed his own extreme left party, France Insoumise. There has, sadly, always been an undercurrent of extreme right, now mainly exemplified by the Rassemblement National (ex FN). In the 2017 Presidential Election I think there were more things both these extreme party's agreed on than disagreed on. For the first round of voting the FN scored 21.3% and FI were just half a percent behind the traditional right on 19.6%. That means just over 45% of those who voted, chose extreme parties.

I seem to remember coming across an early version of the horseshoe theory when I was studing American politics at degree level back in the early/mid 70's.Interestingly,the conventional wisdom (then) was that there was little differnce between the Democratic/Republican parties in the US.Don't think anyone would argue that now.Plus ça change and all that. :Winking:

Yes I didn't mean it was your personal theory, its just you used as an example previously.

You could argue that here Britain we now see both ends of the horseshoe showing its ugly face around the streets of Westminster. And its increasing.

What is obvious is that all MSM TV now want extreme views to be shown. As do radio talk shows etc. Even on chat shows like Nicky Campbell they have payed agitators in the crowd to whip up division and anger......One of them used to play for our Sunday side and is well known by many shrimpers and he was areal natural. I believe he has found God in more recent times.

Who cares what Velma from Scooby-doo thinks
Not you obviously. In a sense wishing, as you clearly do, to leave with no deal, you don't see any problem with sticking the proverbial finger up (two in the UK). Keeping as good a relationship with the EU as possible could be thought of as important, especially as we are required, over the following years, to negotiate a future trade relationship with the bloc.......... may be you're not fussed about that? Or perhaps you are still persuaded that the EU needs us more than we need them?
