Brexit negotiations thread

There has been no positivity about brexit in the media since the referendum. There was growing dissatisfaction about the EU, hence the referendum. Leave won and as I just said it was all negativity, doom and disaster from politicians and media. Maybe if they had supported brexit, more of the losing voters would have accepted the result and the country would not be so divided.

Most of the RW press did nothing but support Brexit. The Mail published a disgusting front page (below). Some of your claim are totally baseless.

Many of us will never accept the result. It was the most stupid thing this country has ever done, a massive act of self harm based on lies and jingoism. If we leave on a no-deal, iI firmly believe the UK is bound for dark days which will take a generation or more to restore - if we ever do.

That is your opinion,it is not a fact. Certainly not, if you're implying that this "much larger group" is now a majority of the British people.

I did think about the way I wrote that. What I am claiming is that those not wanting to leave the EU combined with those who would prefer to leave without a deal are probably a majority. Although I don't back it up with figures...............so I could be wrong. Nevertehless that still adds up to a very large number of the population whose views would not be considered in a debate featuring Corbyn and May, given their present stated positions.
Anyway, as you're certainly aware, the two appear to be having difficulty agreeing to the channel/format of this debate. Maybe another thing we've spent words, time and effort discussing which, in the end, won't happen!

Why would anyone take advice from her. She is possibly the worst pm in the last 50 years. She is as deceitful as Heath was in the last referendum. The sooner she is history the better.

I'm glad you remember the first referendum in 1975.So do I.You'll also no doubt remember that time around, that about 2/3 of the electorate voted to remain in the EEC (as it then was).

Not sure I'd put that down to Heath's duplicity.Think Wilson's decision to allow the PLP a free vote in the Commons on whether to hold a referendum was what was decisive.

I guess if i mocked everyone before the referendum and predicted a 70/30 win for reamain i might well be one of the SMALL minority who cant except democracy.......I mean what else could i do ?

One newspaper, and I didn't find it disgusting. BBC, channel 4 and Sky were, and still are, the main conduits of of remain propaganda. Obviously there are many people who won't accept that the voters voted for a better future and many did so because of the constant lies of politicians about the benefits of the EEC and EU for 40 off years. They lied prior to the referendum and most of them are still lying about it.
If we are forced to stay in the EU, and I include May's plan in this, this country will never recover.

Recover from what? The last time I looked we were the world's 5th largest economy.

I suspect that it is the best deal leavers (or remainers) are likely to get.Unless you're happy to leave the EU,without a deal, on WTO terms?

A lot are Barna, which is ****ing scary.

It does feel like it sometimes doesn't it? Having said that, the most extreme voices on all sides of any debate tend to shout the loudest it seems to me, so I wonder about just how accurate the impression we're getting in terms of numbers (of any opinion) is.

True, and I do ask myself why do I bother responding to the die-hard Brexiteers. There has to be a level of sanity in regards to this as it's the most important thing to his this country probably since WW2. People are literally voting to make themselves poorer and possibly redundant. It's insane in my eyes.

I've read some tosh on this thread (as well as some good and constructive debate) but you win the prize for the 'fake news' award of the month for that comment. Well done.

The instant the 52-48 result was announced and after the comment by Farage about a 52-48 result, anyone with more than two brain cells could see what was going to happen.

There's certainly one way to find out.................................................let's have a poll. If it's natural for SZ, then why not for the country! :Winking:

A New betting market is the house of commons 2018 brexit vote

House of commons brexit vote to pass in 2018 - 7/2

House of commons brexit vote not to pass in 2018 - 1/5

I think that is what you call a banker

I'm not into self harm (that's why I favour remain) so if/when brexit goes through I will do my very best to be successful and make the best of it. I'm sure most people would have the same attitude.

I will not be surprised if you are on here in 5-6yrs time spouting a conspiracy theory on why brexit has failed though.

Ridiculous claim, your team is Southend United.

I won't have time for any conspiracy nonsense in 5-6 years time. I will be on my world tour doing a book launch about flat earth.
