Brexit negotiations thread

On the other hand.
Don't be surprised if we remain, the EU will take over our tax levels and increase them, increase the pension age even higher, enforce budgets upon our subservient government, introduce conscription into the EU army to reduce youth unemployment and enforce us to accept 1 million refugees every year.
Wonderful future for our younger generation.

Some first class paranoia there. Amazing how many older Breixteers bang on about the future for the young, when the young overwhelmingly want to remain in the EU.

Of course the post I replied to was gospel truth.
The EU have already mentioned control of tax, raising pension age to 70 and the formation of an army. They have already controlled budget in Greece, and rejected Italian budget. They have punished Hungary for not accepting migrants. Youth unemployment in Spain, Italy and France is quite high, so I've heard. It is also well documented they want further integration. A federal aligned Europe.
Would you dismiss, as paranoi, that the world of academia is very pro EU, and that their teaching of our young is not biased towards that view. Elders used to be respected due to their experiences of life, but now I get the feeling they just want us to die so they get their own way. Modern teaching seems to be a huge success. Have you seen the recent incident at Southampton University. Sums up the state of education.
I would rather be paranoid than delusional.

FYI,the current pension age in Spain is rising gradually from 65 to 67.While raising it in the future to 70 makes perfect sense, there are no concrete plans for this yet.. The EU regularly checks member states budgets on an annual basis.Spain's budget for 2019 is in the process of being signed off as we speak.Your other comments are most certainly paranoid if not delusional as well.

But obviously it isn't. Blame that nasty old thing called capitalism. The ruin of Socialism the world over.

I won't be blaming anyone because in my opinion the UK economy won't go down the swanny in the short, medium or any other term. Again, that's just my opinion just as what you've asserted is yours.

Look, I get why your angry I really do. Your political beliefs and ideologies have been dieing on their collective arse for many years and the growth of globalisation and capitalism the world over must be a bitter pill to swallow indeed but it's the way of the world and nothing is ever going to change that.

I'm most certainly not angry about the UK's Brexit negotiations but I am deeply disappointed, if not suprised.

As a life long socialist (and erstwhile Marxist), I am full of hope, however, for the political future of the UK.I'm confident that at the next general election the UK will elect a genuinely socialist Labour government under Jeremy Corbyn, for the first time since Clem Attlee's 1945-51 administration. You on the other hand must be incandescent that the Tories are bungling the Brexit negotiations.

You are right, however, to draw attention to "the growth of globalisation and capitalism," especially since the 2008 crash.Marx himself (and later Marxist theoreticians too), failed to appreciate capitalism's ability to re-invent itself after each successive crisis rather than just "wither away" as forecast. There is an urgent need on the left for a unifying theory of post-capitalist economics.

It is definitely something to be celebrated definitely as first class honours are on the up and a more educated workforce is only a good thing no?

So why are we short of doctors, engineers, scientists, technicians etc. There seems to be surplus in media studies, photography, art and numerous other courses which do not lead to useful employment.

The EU Working Time Directive, originally introduced in 1993, gives workers the right to “paid annual leave of at least four weeks”.

That was put into UK law in 1998. At the time, there was no right to a minimum number of paid days off, and the government had tried to stop the EU introducing one.

What is your response to my grants comment?

Try researching the EU grants and loans to companies to help relocate from Britain to overseas. That certainly protected the workers.

I'd hazard a guess than many of them are going abroad (not just to the EU) where their skills are better rewarded.

We've always used immigration, notably from the Indian subcontinent for medical expertise. Are we short of the others? I have no idea and I can't be bothered to Google it.

It's no wonder the older generation get little respect from the young when they write them off constantly and have, due to Brexit, damaged their futures when the older voters -the baby boomers who got a free education, a cheap house, and a good pension - won't suffer the effects for the next 25 years.

I would have thought as a life long Marxist, from a position of white capitalist privilege of course. You would know that each crisis is well planned. That’s why every so called recovery has given the elites more power , more control and more money.

Back in 2008 they couldn’t even think of a good reason. So they blamed US sub prime lending and sold you all the ‘Austerity’ myth....Sorry nurses you can’t have a rise because the banks need £70b..... can’t really say why or what we will actually do with it but trust is they do.

Just proves not only does main stream controlled media work. You can actually fool most of the people most of the time.

I don't know about the other professions you mention, but the numbers of doctors (and nurses, midwifes etc.) who can be trained each year are limited.

Plus once you're a fully trained professional (doctor/nurse/engineer etc) then the global jobs market opens up to you. Lots of highly qualified people emigrate each year (and we receive highly qualified immigrants as well in return).

Not quite sure how we magically expect to train up lots of British doctors and nurses to fill the vacancies left by immigrants we send back home, and then expect them to just stay here on Brexit Island.

Reuters:
Britain signaled on Thursday that its attempt to seal terms for its post-Brexit membership of the World Trade Organization by a fast-track procedure had failed, and it must now enter negotiations which are likely to be lengthy.

This followed objections raised by a number of other WTO states, International Trade Minister Liam Fox said.

Britain is a full member of the WTO, but its terms are bound up with those of the European Union, and it needs to have an independent membership document that sets out the terms of its trade after leaving the bloc in March 2019.

Times:
Britain is preparing for trade negotiations with almost two dozen nations after they objected to the terms it proposed for its World Trade Organisation membership after Brexit

Don't know whether this avenue has been explored, so I thought it may be interesting seek different people's advice. It's really a question that I'd like answered. Isn't it impossible to finish up with a 'no deal' Brexit? I understand that there is a possibility negotiations between the UK and the EU could come to a dead end, maybe through the Irish border issue. If this were the case wouldn't this failure to achieve a deal have to be agreed by the UK parliament.......surely, there is not a hope in hell that would pass? What would happen then?..........any guesses??? The Prime Minister would resign as leader of the party? A second referendum would be called to try and clarify the situation? A General Election would be called (would the Tories fight it backing a hard, no deal Brexit?) Something to ponder on at the start of the new week.
