Post-Match Thread and Ratings Brentwood Town 3-5 Southend United F.A Trophy Rnd 3

Only listened to it on the radio, we need Bonne to start scoring now, OK he might play well with Pepple, but he will be going back soon. It didn't take long for Walker to come on and score and he's hardly prolific, so somethings not right with him.
So when Pepple goes back we'll be down to bare Bonnes (sorry)
Pebble's loan is to end of season - unless there are early termination clauses that could be triggered

Pepple is here for the season unless Luton recall him.

Pepple is on loan for the season, and we also have Waldren yet to get a decent run in the team.

Injured - on loan Southend United goalkeeper Zach Jeacock (Image: Lucy Copsey)

By Chris Phillips@cjphillips1982Chief sports reporter

ON LOAN Southend United goalkeeper Zach Jeacock has returned to his parent club Lincoln City for treatment on a foot injury.

Jeacock missed the Shrimpers' 5-3 win at Brentwood Town in the FA Trophy.

But Blues boss Kevin Maher expects to know more about the seriousness of the setback at the start of next week.

"We trained on the 4G on Thursday and he turned awkwardly on his foot," said Maher.

"He's had a scan but he's gone back to Lincoln for them to have a look at where it's at.

"Hopefully we'll have more news at the start of next week."

Jeacock has missed three appearances for Blues since signing in October.

Debut - for Southend United new boy James Golding (Image: FOCUS IMAGES)

By Chris Phillips@cjphillips1982Chief sports reporter.

JAMES Golding made his Southend United debut at Brentwood Town today - just hours after signing on loan from Oxford United.

The centre-back played the final 12 minutes of Blues' 5-3 win in place of Jack Bridge.

And Shrimpers boss Kevin Maher was pleased to get Golding on the pitch.

"We wanted to get him on and I'm pleased he got some minutes," said Maher.

"He only came in with us yesterday and it's an area we needed more depth in.

"We needed more competition because we were a little bit short.

"We're pleased with him and you can see what he's going to be."

Just hope we can keep him until the end of the season, great player, has been a long time since we have had a striker who gets you rising from your seat when he drives forward. Enjoy him while we can, as was said before on here, never fall in love with a loan player. Strikers like Bim are a rarity and he will undoubtedly already have other suitors from higher up the pyramid.
We should try and sign him permanently, we should offer him a top dollar contract. Hopefully he loves us and the area. If he does he should get his agent and Luton to arrange his transfer. After all happiness in life is of the most important thing we should all be looking for. Getting back too EFL must be our top priority. COYB, UTB.

Real grass roots football, not used to standing let alone out in the elements. We started slowly and Brentwood were pacey and took the lead from a set piece. That feeling of upset was in the air, but thankfully we got to grips with the game. They were not great at the back and time after time we broke the lines. I was in line with the goal line and Wind’s header was not even close to going over, it hit the underside of the bar and bounced back into play. We had lots of chances and probably 6-2 would have been a fairer reflection. I don’t care if Bonne does not score as long as we win and progress and continue to play as a unit. Bonne does a lot of hard work and allows space for Bim to excel. He had the ball for the second penalty but classily gave it to Bim to get his hat trick. I thought Wind struggled a bit and it was a game for Gus as he his a better attacker whereas Wind excelled at Rochdale where we needed a better defender. Disappointing to concede 2 more quite late, both good finishes from decent crosses. We are in the hat and that is all that matters today.

CAN 6.5
Taylor 7
Crowther 7
Ralph 7.5
Wind 6
KAF 7.5
Miley 7
Husin 6.5
Bridge 5.5
Pepple 9 MOTM
Bonnie 7

Waldron 5.5
Morton 6.5
Coker 5.5
Walker 6.5
Golding 5

Bim Pepple, easy MOTM pick and far too good for us, let’s enjoy whilst he is with us. Well done to Brentwood for hosting although they made it easy for themselves by limiting our numbers. Programme was a fiver, jeez, thought the pitch played really well for an artificial surface. Good to have some selection dilemmas for the squad going forward. Hartlepool at home will not be easy and we desperately need a home win before a tough trip to York. UTB

Don't normally do ratings but some performances were on different levels for me...

CAN 5
Taylor 4 - tons of errors
Crowther 3 - struggled to cope
Ralph 7 - solid and good going forward
Wind 6 -
KAF 7 - lots of energy
Miley 7
Husin 6 - looks afraid in final 3rd
Bridge 6 - final ball needs improving
Pepple 9 - please sign him
Bonnie 4 - very poor

One of them games which we made hard work of. We are nowhere near good enough at either end of the pitch. Conceding soft goals and missing easy chances (apart from Pepple). Take him out and we could of easily lost that game. When he went off it changed the game.

Isn't it customary for Cup Final programmes to cost more..............??

I reckon we'd need to make the play-offs at least for Bim to consider making a permanent move.

For Bim to sign we would need to make the play-offs in L1 and then COSU would have to smash the wage structure. He is great lad but Zoners need to get real. If he was from our academy or signed from lower division last summer we would all be saying if not January then he will certainly be off in the summer.

He is great example of how the loan system can work for club in the NL......Enjoy it while it lasts because despite all the doom, gloom and Mayer out posts in the last month, we can still make the play-offs and have a great run in the trophy.
