Branded clothes

Are you a clothes ponce or am I missing something here?

In all honesty MK Lacoste shirts for example do have better quality over say a Primark polo.

and primarks questionable ethics, both on the way they are produced so cheaply, and that the fact that the very poor quality almost encouranges disposable clothing. i'm not trying to come across as holier-than-thou, because i've brought plenty of primark clothes in my time... but i personally think that people should look at where the clothes come from.

i did an economic study for my degree on sweatshops and child labour and looked into whether a sweatshop is better than no sweatshop... it's unclear, but i would suggest that people vote with their feet and then both primark and 'brands' will be forced to increase the standards for their workers.

Quite agree. If I could buy "fair-trade" clothes, I would, but where?

As a matter of iinterest MK what is the single most amount you have spent on one item of clothing?

I bought a proper parka for about £250 when I was in my mid 20's (it lasted me about 8yrs or so) and I could of survived a Siberian winter...also a pair of shoes for £80 that I bought in 2000 and I've still got and wear on special "casual" occasions.

The most expensive thing I have bought is a pair of Zegna trousers that cost me £250 at the afformentioned Woodbury Common. They would have been about £450 otherwise.

But, and here's the thing, they had no visible label. I don't buy clothes to show off to others. I buy them for me.

The other day I was on the train going to Southend and bloke stood next to me and had such a superb jumper on. Its Paul & Shark if you know what your looking for and he won my instant respect.

Reminds of a time a few years ago when Hackett polo shirts were all the rage, I was told by some pikey that I must be poor because I had a Hackett polo shirt instead of a Nickleson one.

Yeah I agree, sometimes quality investment (even if it is expensive) is needed for the wardrobe.

Bought a Nike hoody for £50 about 4 years ago. Getting a bit tatty but comes in useful for kick about etc.

If my 6 numbers ever come up (here's hoping, there's a rollover tomorrow), I could happily go & blow over £5k on clothes (especially trainers) in one shopping spree!

I don't mind wearing stuff with logos on as long as it's relatively discreet. I'd rather pay a few quid extra to have a Fred Perry polo shirt (plain, no stripes across the middle or anything like that) than one with no logo at all.

I might add that the fact my Mum works at Debenhams means I can get some brilliant discounts on clothes too, so I don't necessarily have to pay a premium for decent clobber.

Trainers are one thing in particular where the brand is important. Supermarket trainers anyone?

Got on a pair of Lonsdale at the moment, but they only cost me £10 in a sale in Sports World.

Edit: I did buy a pair of proper Asics running shoes for £80 but I don't wander round MK Tesco's in 'em, purely for what they're designed for: Gym & proper running.
