Nile Ranger seems likely, though he was heavily linked with Plymouth this week.

And of course, by copying and pasting from ShrimperZone and replies to Chris Phillips on Twitter, this appears...

It's now 1.44 pm, just saying..............

Whether Nile deserves another chance or not, in this case it's irrelevant because he is getting one, so I can't understand why so many people on social media are giving him such a hard time? I'm not condoning his past actions in any way, but in my opinion it's not going to help matters by giving him abuse for mistakes made a couple of years ago. I don't see the harm in getting behind him in pre-season, giving him a warm welcome to the football club, putting aside his past offences and offering him that platform to get his career going again.

Worst case scenario: it doesn't work out and he leaves after a month.
Best case scenario: we get a decent quality player with experience at a higher level, whose still relatively young and has time to develop, who may just turn out to be the "prolific" striker we have been yearning for.

Worst case could also be:

He bags 15 goals in his first month and he's no longer under contract?

A sensible gamble for us, only way at the moment for us to get someone potentially "above the L1 standard" (Hunt & Moussa). When a player moves to a new team, there's always an opportunity for a "fresh start" Good luck Nile, hope you make the most of this opportunity, you and us will benefit greatly if you do.

Oops didn't mean to click like.....anyway the worst case scenario is not even close to being accurate, he could have a very unsettling effect on the dressing room, if he starts playing up we MUST get rid straight away, in the meantime let's hope he's not a bad influence on the younger squad members, I hope Mr Brown has instructed them to steer clear and keep any relationships purely professional, train & play together, no socialising as it seems outside of work this guy finds it very hard to keep out of trouble.

Great another player with a 2kilo tag around his ankle....

Another?

I think these moves rarely work. But that may as much be because the clubs willing to gamble are usually in a bad position so feel they have little to lose in making the move.

This is a double gamble as it's not just a gamble on his character - which has multiple red flags - but also on his ability. Unlike, say Luke McCormick or Ched Evans, he doesn't have a proven track record on the pitch. It's all unfulfilled potential. Still, if he has kept his nose clean for two years maybe he has turned his life around and maybe that will help him turn talent into performance.

A little Ranger piece in the Mirror. The bit that I thought made him ideal for us was the last para, which I have reproduced below the Mirror link:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/nile-ranger-set-handed-short-8345799

'Ranger last year pleaded for one more chance in football, and it seems the 250-year-old has been granted his wish.'

Anyone else we sign will be young in comparison!

I think Paul Furlong was fractionally older to be fair.

I think its a good gamble and hopefully the young man has truly learnt from past mistakes and can also become a good role model for the younger people at the club, think about it ,if he has changed and truly wants to play the game he professes to love ,then hwat better person to speak to the young players and explain to them how he went haywire etc and help them realise how short a life span football players have. Many a person who has spent time behind bars have changed and become good role models for the youth, simply because they have experienced both sides of the law.
God lucj Nile ,grab this opportunity and change your life ,with it you can change others for the better too.

Like others have said, if he is a reformed character, and who are we to know for sure, and he was desperate for another chance, he will be one grateful man, and we could reap the benefits.

Or it could got all tits up as per :winking:

I'm having a bit of a chat with a Blackpool fans site. Nothing too interesting yet that we don't already know, but if some worthwhile posts emerge I'll post the link.

To be fair, Roche was a badun after joining Southend. (joined 94, stabbed someone in 95)

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2003/may/08/theknowledge.sport

The court heard that Lumsden himself had been a victim of an unprovoked machete attack years earlier when he was stabbed in the leg by former Newcastle United player David Roche.

The midfielder was jailed for four years for knifing Lumsden in Newcastle's Circus Circus bar in 1995.

Roche and his friend Brian Tait were each wielding sawn-off shotguns and machete-type knives when they and friend John Wheatley attacked Lumsden after being barred from Madison's nightclub. Tait, then of Albert Close, Heaton, was jailed for four years, nine months, and Wheatley, then of Carville Rise, Byker, for four years, three months.

Sounds like an episode from the Sapranos.
