Football club signs yet another dud who either hardly played or rarely scores !

Monthly deal would be OK to try him out but wouldn't shock me if eventually he has a 2 year deal with fleeting glimpses of his talent.

I see Dan Holman has been banging them in for fun, about right though for our scouting network.

Same old arguments.

If he had a history of scoring loads he wouldnt even be an option to us.

As for Dan Holman Col U's scouting network must be as bad because they had him on their books and in dire need of someone to keep them in League One yet still shipped him out.

I think Dan was shipped out for something more than footballing reasons, but if true I am yet to find out what they were!

Dan Holman is a great non-league striker who has demonstrated that this does not necessarily translate to the higher leagues. We had another one a couple of years ago from Newport- forget his name. Scored for fun in the conference- in L2 slow and couldn't hit a barn door. Unfairly perhaps what they will never have is the talent Nile Ranger has and hence the gamble (with all the cards in our hands). By the way Nial Ranger is proven goalscorer at L1 level and played nearly 30 times in the premiership (all be it nearly exclusively from the bench).

Craig Reid? Had to have a think about that one.

Welcome back luv, we've missed you this summer:thumbsup:

Dont really have a problem with this to be honest. People can change. I saw he had an interview with Sky sports a while back and said he hasn't had a drop of alcohol in 2 years and that he woke up and smelt the coffee when two of his friends died. Nearly everyone has forgot and moved on from the fact Ched Evans signed for Chesterfield a couple weeks back. Now moved back home and wants another chance of football employment.

Yes, could be a massive disaster. But then it could be the best bit of business we do in a while. We hold all the cards, he does well he stays, he misbehaves he goes. Simple as that. Good luck to Nile and us.

I can't see how any criticism can be levied against the club in general, or Ron or Phil in particular. We had a chance to recruit a young man who, by all accounts, is a naturally talented player, and we have taken it.

Aware of Nile's previous off-the-field issues and his lack of match-fitness, we have structured an agreement that suits all parties. We have limited exposure should things go pear-shaped; he has the chance to re-establish himself as a pro footballer.

Hopefully he has turned the corner personally and we are his opportunity to do so professionally.

Ever the optimist, I look forward to reading in the press how this has all worked out brilliantly in a couple of years' time.

Absolutely right!!!

Two seasons and he never started a game, think that speaks volumes. Not like he was playing and this mysterious non football reason happened.

Has he gone now?

The same sort of shape that we are in as a club.... Fked, I think this is really a sign of how far our name has dropped as a club, it's quite clear we have not been able to sign any of our top targets and now at the 11th hour are having to fill the squad with liabilities and trialists yet again......
The 11th hour? Give the club a break. Most players contracts only ran out a couple of days ago, pre season has only just started today and it is over a month until the season starts. It's hardly time to start worrying about the 'lack' of signings (with Oxley and Ranger it's now 4). I think you'll find every club at this level takes on trialists in pre-season, it's hardly an indicator of our inability to sign anyone.

You don't know who our top targets are/were so how on earth can you be so clear that we've failed to sign them.

I don't have any problems with this signing and I really hope it works out for Nile and for us. My only concern is, if this is PB's plan A for a striker and it doesn't work out, where will that leave us at the start of the season?

The way our signings are going, more like the Lone Ranger.......

With PB policy of 1 up front he will be the Lone Ranger!!

He has, with the right mentality, undoubtedly got the ability to be a threat ( in the nicest possible way ) to any defence in this league.

Give him a chance I say, we ain't exactly spoilt for choice ATM.

I can't imagine he will be our main striker signing. He'll be on next to nothing and is a huge gamble, doubt he'll be a starter straight away. We must have someone else lined up.

1 month contract so, if it works out, that's great and we have a nifty new striker.

If not it's no biggy in terms of contractual obligations and we move on looking elsewhere.

I like that the club are being shrewd about this.
