I agree that the club have put a savvy short-term structure in place to ensure we're not exposed financially if his head's not straight. I also believe that he could prove to be a very astute signing if he's focused on his football and gets match-fit quickly. However, I do worry about the potential damage it could do to the wider squad if he is disruptive, as a good pre-season is pivotal to a solid start in the league IMO...

I can't imagine he will be our main striker signing. He'll be on next to nothing and is a huge gamble, doubt he'll be a starter straight away. We must have someone else lined up.

Interesting comment that .......... I suspect what would help Nile most is when you are starting games and scoring or being part of a winning team ........... but for some players, sitting on the bench and not being able to get on and show what you can do can be mentally tough to handle.

So, it’s Nile Ranger… Talented footballer, but seriously needs to grow up and prove his priority is to make it as a model pro, and not spend his time showing off to his yardie yoof pals in Sarf London.

Quite looking forward to seeing him play, I say well done PB for giving him a chance. Reading about him he seems a similar character to Ravel Morrison, who had incredible talent and seems to have blown it.

All I can say is thank god it’s not the kiddie killer from Plymouth. Wannabe Gangsta – yeah, should be fun ! Let’s see !

GOOD LUCK NILE !

Good signing IMO... Seems to know where the back of the net is which is just what we need and with the terms in his contract, it sounds pretty low risk!

Read a mirror article today about the proposed move here and what he says sounds like what you want to hear.. Things like people have always told him his career won't last forever but he was naive and now it's hitting home and he just wants to have one more chance to prove he's capable of playing the game he loves. He's also quit the booze which is a good thing! He's making the right noises he just needs to prove it and we could have a fantastic player here...

Whether Nile deserves another chance or not, in this case it's irrelevant because he is getting one, so I can't understand why so many people on social media are giving him such a hard time? I'm not condoning his past actions in any way, but in my opinion it's not going to help matters by giving him abuse for mistakes made a couple of years ago. I don't see the harm in getting behind him in pre-season, giving him a warm welcome to the football club, putting aside his past offences and offering him that platform to get his career going again.

Worst case scenario: it doesn't work out and he leaves after a month.
Best case scenario: we get a decent quality player with experience at a higher level, whose still relatively young and has time to develop, who may just turn out to be the "prolific" striker we have been yearning for.

Agreed. Who knows, being made to feel welcome here might be just what he needs, and if he settles in quickly there's more chance of this move being a success, and if it is a success it might just help him stay on the straight and narrow.

Yeah shocker.

That account is embarrassing, if its a Southend fan posting on here (and it may well be seeing as how many he posts about Southend) then he should hang his head in shame. First for making nonsense up, and second for getting so much so stupidly wrong (saying Leonard was 1million and Worrall was going to Leeds for 500k being two of my faves).

Over the weekend I pointed out on twitter just how often his "information" was corrrect, he didnt have much of an answer except saying he never said it was 100%.

Why do these accounts do it? Attention?

Anyway, back on topic, if it is indeed Nile Ranger and that does seem to be the most glaringly obvious choice then its a gamble for sure.

But that account was right!
