Erm, that's exactly what it means.
No it doesn't, he did it, fact. If he had been taken to court and found innocent after a magistrate or jury had considered the evidence that's a different matter.

I will ask again, have you watched the footage and do you have a case to argue in his defence ?

But he wasn't taken to court, so the argument is specious. The CPS failed to make a case. I haven't watched the footage because I'm at work, and I have faith in the courts, from personal experience.

Actually taking the moral high ground and then getting something done about it is a hard thing to do in this generally spineless society.

What message are we sending out to the women and children who support our club now, and in the future?

I want him out of my club NOW!

Michael Timlin did time for dishonestly taking points on his licence. What message are we sending out to all drivers who follow this club? That it is OK to do that?

Ricky Otto did time for armed robbery. In fact his record was even worse than Ranger's (four years inside IIRC). Yet Otto is rightly adored by fans of this club and turned his life around.

Are you implying that fans who feel, after two years out of trouble and an apology to his previous clubs/fans, that Ranger deserves his month's chance are morally indecent?

Guilty until proven innocent...the brave new world. What next..the mob..
Even he does not defend his past behaviour..the opposite he has apologised for it. So no-one on here will defend his behaviour whether they have watched the footage or not.
The majority of fans say give him a chance- that is about accepting that he has a bad history but also that he has committed to change.. if he doesn't he will be out.
In your world I presume everyone coming out of prison would not be allowed a job, to join clubs etc....if you don't allow people to reform they won't and that is not a recipe for a better society either. He hasn't been to prison by the way or actually been convicted of any crime where a custodial sentence would be a realist option. He has been in a young offenders institution. He has been out of trouble for two years and has not drunk for two years. There are reasons to believe he genuinely wants a good and positive future.

Nothing to do with courts, cps or the police. The footage is clear, when you can access it please take a look and tell me you still welcome him at our club.

He is a serial beater of women!!! Why has the club signed such a character???

Please read the previous 12 pages of this increasingly tedious thread...
The majority are happy to give him a chance- a number aren't. That's fine. But he is now our player and we will need to judge him on what we find from this point on. No-one, least of all him, is playing down or denying his past so none of this is a revelation or a shock.

So much of this has gone over your righteous head. You don't know what he has done in the last couple of years, you are going on his police record. That footage is not something that will show on his record but it is clear what he did. You know full well that victims of this kind of crime are often reluctant to press charges or co-operate with police.

There are plenty of dubious characters out there that avoid prison for many years, that doesn't mean they aren't committing crimes.

I will not ever get personal- if you want to call me righteous or anything else that is up to you.

I am NOT going on his police record- I am fully ware of the allegations and reports as are most people on here. He does not deny them either, he has admitted his mistakes and apologised for them. Please don't think you know everything and anyone else on here who disagrees with you must know nothing.

My position is NOT that I deny what he has done (found guilty or otherwise). Like many my position is that to the contrary we all know what he has done, he admits it he has apologised. Its that we believe he should have a chance to continue his apparent rehabilitation and get another chance. We are entitled to that opinion every much as you are entitled to yours.

Really ? You call people who hold a different view to your Victor's & Victoria's, that's personal, condescending and rude.

Lets be honest, there's a huge difference between Ranger's long list of run-ins with the law compared to the likes of Ryan Hall, Michael Timlin and even Luke McCormick, all of whom made stupid (and in the latter's case horrific and tragic) mistakes. Ranger has a track record over a number of years of scummy behaviour after scummy behaviour.

That said, people can change. If he really has not taken a drink in two years and really is committed to one last chance to make a decent career in this game then I'm ok with him getting that chance but I can't say I'm massively optimistic about it.

If he banged in 30 goals this season and helped us get promotion would you be bothered by his past then?

Definitely would, because the family values of this club are more important to me than a promotion season brought about by Ranger.

The club should apologise to the fans and release Ranger from his rolling contract.

Next the club, in conjunction with the family groups of supporters only, should put this type of ugly situation to bed once and for all. They should produce a Southend United decency and standards code for new players coming in - that defines exactly the minimum standard of character and personal history we expect from all our new players.
