Barcelona - Football and Holiday

Let's see if I can "learn" (some of) you lot something.
Here's a quote for you, from the first edition of the Time Out guide to Barcelona,(party written by my good friend,UAB colleague-in the Translation Department- and S.C. neighbour,Eamon Butterfield).

"It's much better to buy one of the various kinds of multi-journey tickets or targetes.(Catalan)....The targetes currently available are :
T1 Valid for 10 trips on buses,Metro and FCG...
T2" Ditto.
etc,etc.(page 13).

T1,T2 etc are the terms used by locals and long-term residents (like me) to describe the different Metro and FGC cards available in Barcelona.
I've really no idea what you say out there in tourist land.:smiles:

So you admit then that indeed you were wrong AGAIN?

The clue is perhaps that the website is in English.:smiles:

Just because locals refer to something as something, doesn't mean it is correct. A £20 note is still a £20 note, even if many people call it a 'score'

British tourists know better than the locals of course.:winking:

Just as a matter of interest, how would you distinguish between the T-10 1 zona card(cost 9,25 Eur)and the T-10 2 Zones card (cost 18,40 Eur),which I carry in my Shrimpers Trust cardholder,(along with my Spanish resident's permit and "la caixa" credit card)if you had to ask for them in Spanish or Catalan?

Since i bought it from a automated ticket machine that had the options of Spanish, Catalan or English (available at all Metro stations), it wasnt difficult, that and the price differential which is clear, and also the fact that all the tourist guides i read stated that if you only want to do the city itself, you will only need Zone 1.

I guess the real differnce is the 'T-10 1 Zona' has exactly that printed on the ticket. The T-10 being the type of ticket, and the 1 -Zona relating to the routes permitted. Pretty much like my C2C season ticket, where the ticket type is defined as 'Annual Travelcard' and Southend East to London zones 1-6 are the permitted routes.

I never said that British Tourists know better than the locals, and of course each locallity will always have different ways of refering to something than the official name. However, since this thread is for advise for British Tourists going to Barcelona, surely it is more important that they use the official lingo rather than the local slang, to avoid any confusion?

:peace:You guessed right. Finally we can agree on something.
To be fair, I should also mention, that until fairly recently(last December, IIRC), the various different cards T1/T2/T3/T4 etc used to have this printed on the front/back of the card.TBH, I didn't realise(until you pointed it out)that this was no longer the case.
Like you,I also use the ATM's to buy 1 zona and 2 zones tickets from my local FGC station(which doesn't have a ticket office as such).
