Barcelona - Football and Holiday

Go back Sunday, im afraid...

Staying 10 mins walk west of Las Ramblas ... best to use train or bus from the airpor!? Staying at AB Viladomat which looks like is on the biggest t junction in the world!

Use the bus.Just turn left(from terminal 2) and the stop is about 20 yards away. It'll drop you at the terminus,
which is Plaza Catalunya in front of the El Corte Inglès department store(right in the centre of town). If you ask for a return(una ida y vuelta)it's a little bit cheaper.Have a good trip!

ps In your case get off the bus at the penultimate Universitat(universidad in Spanish) stop.
pps.Your hotel is quite near the English Pub http://www.the-philharmonic.com/ in C/Mallorca which isn't bad.The Landlady is a Boston fan.Takes all sorts.:winking:(I know some Everton fans who'll be going there for the game on Saturday and there are often good live bands at the weekend).

While we are on the subject Barna, what derby or big rival games would you suggest in Spain?

Obviously the Bar$a v Espanyol game(though that'll clash with our last home game against Macclefield). The Madrid derby tonight should be quite a game.Betis V Seville is always hotly contested along with Bilbao v Real Sociadad. The Bar$a v R.Madrid game here(on 21st April),which they call a derby here, will be some game too though there won't be many(anyone)from Madrid at the Nou Camp.Impossible to get tickets for these days unless you have a VERY good friend or deep pockets.

So if a certain person asked very nicely if your address could be used to get said tickets and a commission of some sort could be paid to sweeten the deal then would it be that you are the man who could be a VERY good friend or failing that the sort of chap who would help out a fellow shrimper.

**Disclaimer... This post in no way means that Barnablue and Genial Harry Grout are now or ever likely to be best bossum buddies. He is still a stinking left-wing lowlife commie scumbag while I will always be to him a filthy right-wing no-good feral rat**

I have (in the past)put fellow Shrimpers in touch with people who could get them tickets for the Barca /Real Madrid "derby"(gratis on my part of course). The last couple baulked at the extortionate price asked. Can't say I really blame them.I'd sooner watch the game on the box in a bar or at home like everyone else(and I've seen a few "derby " games in my time,in the days when you could just turn up on the day and buy a ticket). My own contacts list has rather dried up ever since I came out as a full on Espanyol supporter.Doubt if I'll be able to get a ticket for the Chelsea game and I've seen most of the games involving British clubs over the years.C'ést la vie and all that.
Btw I think of you as Basil the Rat rather than a feral rat these days.Shrimpero tells me you're quite a nice bloke really but a bit hard.:winking:

Cheers for the advise. Bus was fine for route there but we seemingly stumbled onto the Barca marathon this morning so ended up walking about looking for the aerobus with zero luck but found 2 other people from harlow in the same boat and got a taxi to the airport with them! Did more than expected due to the weather being pretty shoddy, bar the afternoon we arrived and ended up using the underground a fair bit as did too much walking as it was. If anyone wants any advise, send me their location and ill send you some tips...

Marathon stuff this am was annoying. You missed Espanyol's lunchtime 4-0 thashing of Valencia and a great concert by The Waterboys later on today.:winking:

It was very annoying as the hotel staff didn't even mention it and i even asked on the reception on Sat eve about where was best place to jump on the bus on the way back. Incompetent fools!

small tip for the Nou Camp tour. Buying at the gate is 22 Euro

however, if you book in advance here...

http://www.viator.com/tours/Barcelo...tadium-Tour-and-Museum-Tickets/d562-2140FCBCN

using code FSAV7 the cost is only 20 Euro's and you avoid what can be lengthly queues at the entrance.

We used this, and you pick your ticket up at an agents called Julia Travel, which is near Catalynia bus stop (ie where your airport bus will end up if you are staying central).

Also, the ticket you get is valid until 31st Dec, so you dont need to use it on the day you collect it.

p.s - the Metro is awesome, and by far the best way to get about, and puts the Underground to shame!

Absolutely right. Both for comfort and price.(It's air-conditioned too).Buy a T1(targeta for 10 rides, valid for two rides within the same zone,by bus and tram as well,up to 90 minutes after first use).

We bought a T-10 each (i realise you can pass it back, but we knew were going to be using the Metro a lot), and used 9 trips on both, so for €9.45 just over a euro a trip, absolute bargain!

I loved the fact the train is counted down to the second, and it has lights underneatht the stops on the map on the train so you can see what stops have been done, what is next etc!

Sorry to be pedantic but it's actually called a T1(1 zone) or T(argeta)1(uno)in Spanish, which as you say, is valid for 10 rides.I'm not sure if a T-10 exists but I doubt it.I use a T2(2 zones) from Sant Cugat into Barcelona and I believe the cards go up to 5/6 for those living even further out in the sticks than we do.

your right there. nice clean, air conditioned, plus they do a 10 journey travel card for like 5 euros so really cheap considering you could use that for a family of five for a return journey.

Indeed:

Metro (Spain) > London Underground > Metro (Paris) > Subway (NYC)
