Barcelona - Football and Holiday

Only been there for a day a few years back for an England game. Apart from several bars we went to the museum at the Nou Camp which is well worth a visit as well as the stadium tour. Can't help you anymore than that!

Very nice, but they charged to rent a swimming cap 10Euros (in 2005), if you want to swim in their pool.

Quite afew posh hotels do apparently. Some friends of mine complained about the Euro Disney Hotel in Paris wanting to charge them for towels (to use in the swimming pool)recently.
One top Barcelona hotel that doesn't, is the Florida http://www.hotellaflorida.com/en/ where you can have a drink at the bar and a crafty free swim in their outdoor pool if you're discrete.Highly recommended( for the view alone).

Kev,

Tony and I have been to Barcelona several times and stayed over on some occasions.
On one ocassion we were lucky to get tickets for the Nou Camp on second tier. Out of interest we went and sat in the gods and from the view it was like watching ants playing. The lower down the better and on non-match days you must visit the museum.

We have always stayed in the Las Rambles and managed to get good deals but if you are going for the week why do you not try renting an apartment as I know there are some great deals around at the moment. Try Owners direct/holiday lettings etc

Stayed there a few times , first time just asked the cabbie at Airport to take us to some Hotels near Las Rambla's but were all 2 star accomadation which is ok for just lads but not with Missus IMO , also stayed in huge Hotel above the Main Railway station there .......kind of like Waterloo type size and Hotel was pretty reasonable and clean .
Good thing was it was right outside the Bus stop for the tour which is about £20 for weekend wristband and there are Red / Blue routes but they cover all main attractions including the stop for Nou Camp. You can hop on and off at anytime and we managed to see pretty much most of the City , few nice resturants in townand around the Harbour , didn;t really feel too safe in La Ramblas after about 9 pm so stayed clear .

There was a few places and one shop inside the big railway station that sell Barcelona tickets , but as stated the ground is huge and its a waste of money sitting that high up , do the stadium tour first to check out what we mean ......you'll soon realise

We went last year and caught a game (against Seville, and Barca won 5-0). We got tickets the day before no problem, you'll see vendors all across town so I wouldn't worry too much about getting them in advance, just find a vendor a few days before the game. The one we used was on Carrer del Carne which is a road off Las Ramblas. You'll pay a little bit more (maybe 10 euros on top of face value), but we had good tickets for the medium price range (which was at the very front of the top tier. The view was fantastic, but I wouldn't recommend sitting right at the top. I think we paid about 60 euros each for our tickets.

We absolutely loved Barcelona, the city is great and the food is fantastic. We go away with some friends every year, and today got back from a trip to Rome (which was great - but Barca is better IMO). We found the open top bus was good value for two days, because it connects a lot of the main sights which are quite spread out. Definitely go and see some of the Gaudi buildings and Parc Guell, and Sagrada Familia is just incredible. We also enjoyed some good meals by the Catedral and around by the harbour at Barcelonetta. I'd recommend a guide book (Lonely Planet are good), as their restaurant recommendations are usually good.

Enjoy, I'd love to go back again!

food wise, where are the good places to eat. Last time i ate on Las Ramblas and it was pokey and well over-priced. There must be some lonely planet type places tucked away that you good chaps and chapesses can recommend. One of my favourite parts of travelling is the food.

Cheers for all the tips and stuff. Booked up AB Viladamot in Barca about 5 mins away from Las Rambles and came to £600 for 2 of us including flights and breakfast at the hotel. The folks should be sorting out some tickets for the Barca game for me next week.

Kev

we liked Taller de Tapas, which was a well priced and good quality tapas restaurant near Las Ramblas.

Barca game now is tonight so thats a bummer (luckily hadnt bought them!) ... going tomorrow morning. Time to re-read some threads on here for some tips!

You can always see Espanyol v Valencia on Sunday 15th(12.00 KO!).:winking::Also The Waterboys are playing at the Teatre Coliseum on Sunday(20.00).

Go back Sunday, im afraid...

Staying 10 mins walk west of Las Ramblas ... best to use train or bus from the airpor!? Staying at AB Viladomat which looks like is on the biggest t junction in the world!
