Whats more of a worry to me is losing players to the likes of Bury & Mansfield.........:blush::blush:

Ive also been told by the same guy who told me Worrell was off to Millwall 3 weeks before it was announced that Lenny is close to sealing a move to Millwall...............this guy should know as he used to play for us but is now part of Millwalls coaching staff!!!

Hmmmm well I wonder who that could be. Tricky one....

Not unless they up their offer by some distance he won't.

How much have Millwall offered?

Bloody hell, how bitter do you lot sound?

Tin pot Bury, no ambition, gone for the money... you sound like spoilt brats although I suppose tango hates us and it rubbed off on some of you lot!

We are the Bury we sign who we want.

Edited for accuracy. Now **** off.
Oh yeah I forgot that crowds win you games, suppose that's why Bradford went up last season and Sheffield United won the league championship 6 years on the bounce.

Not the fact we have better facilities (where a player spends most of his career) than you, we have a more ambitious chairman obviously and a better manager I feel than tango, that brought the lad up north.

We are the Bury we sign who we want, even with our 3k.

John White has been a good servant but would be surprised he stays either for much the same reasons. I suspect Ricky Duncan will be delighted that these departures give a better line of sight to the first team squad for some of the youngsters breaking through this year too. PB recruitment policy should be quality not quantity and this will afford those youngsters more opportunity to be in and around the match day squads. What is the point of having an U21 team if there path is blocked by journeymen pro's and youngsters from other clubs like Amos and the boy from
Swansea?

I agree it would be great to see some of the youngsters come through, providing they are good enough. However what do supporters want of Southend united as a whole?

Having just missed out on the playoffs there seems to be a (misguided in my opinion) presumption that we will be challenging for the play-offs or automatics again next season. If we are to blood some youngsters this year I would suggest it makes challenging for promotion next year harder, but could derive some benefits a couple of seasons down the line.

Are supporters prepared though to accept a couple of years consolidation whilst the team in rebuilt in that fashion?

Lol, can you imagine if that was the strategy.

Lets give the kids a go, we may struggle for a season or two but could yield results in 2 or 3 years.

Fans will be fine with that, Brown wouldnt get sacked and any decent youngers wouldnt bother leaving the first instant they could after half a decent season in the first team, probably.

The reality is we need a player that is as good as the one that is leaving to maintain this years performance and build on it.

Going backwards in the hope that a few kids might make it is not a solution anyone will accept.

I am not proposing that should be the strategy but how many times do you read on here that we should be promoting youth players? Jack Bridge is a prime example despite there being no evidence last year season that he would have improved the team.

Of course we should be looking to sign better players and I cannot imagine Ron Martin or Phil Brown trying to do anything else. I also do not think that Atkinson, in particular, and Thompson will be that hard to replace with better players.

Interestingly though there is another thread questioning the age of the team and Brown's signings over the last 2 years, including Simon Cox and Anthon Ferdinand, so it would seem just signing the best players is not enough for some.

Bringing youth team players through is always a good thing but shouldnt be the priority. The best players are what we need, if we can bring them through the youth system thats fantastic, but as you say who really is there? Bridge seems to have ideas well above his station.

We had people complaining when we signed Cox,Ferdinand and Fortune, but they soon shut up when the team starts winning so results are all that really matter.

It doesnt matter if the player is a youth player, a loan or a 33 year old as long as we get results.

As soon as results go south thats when people start searching for reasons why, players too old, players on loan etc etc. But we have had success with players from all those routes, and failures too.

You'd have to seriously question the advice Thompson has received from his agent here, committing to a 3-year deal at Bury when he could have done so much better. Can only imagine Bury have offered far more than we did. I agree with Feathers, I don't believe replacing Atkinson and Thompson will prove to be as difficult as people may think. Lenny on the other hand....:stunned:

For what it's worth I don't think Ferdinand is getting enough credit here for Thompson's performances, in much the same way Dorian Dervite made Peter Clarke look like a top L1 player alongside him back in 2008/9. I believe even Sokolik would have probably looked pretty good alongside Anton, especially as he impressed when partnering John Egan a few seasons back. Ferdinand won't be partnering Thompson at Bury and it'll be interesting to see how he fares there in a side who shipped goals for fun last season. Remember Bolger went to Bury on loan at the tail end of 2015/16 and failed to prevent them conceding goals, he went on to become PotY at Fleetwood last season. My own personal opinion is that this is a move Thompson may well live to regret, joining a side who have a habit of focusing on attack rather than defence won't do his international career much good - he'd have been better off staying here or going somewhere else IMHO.

This Brown thing has legs. I know one player still at club who despises Brown. Is a regular as well.

Despise is a strong word and it does not sound healthy.

I would point out that there is no rule that says players should like the manager or that the manager needs the players to like him. Perhaps there needs to be respect and that can be difficult for any manager to earn/achieve when players see themselves being dropped or other players being brought in.

Anyway I am sorry that Thommo has moved on. I wish him all the best and I look forward to seeing how his replacement fares come the new season.

Players despising Brown and going to sign for Evans doesnt really add up.

That would be cutting off your nose to spite your face, then slamming your man parts into a drawer just to make sure.

I hadn't posted on here a while so forgot how quickly people twist your words. At no point have I said bringing through youth team was a priority - it is simply something a club like us need to do a bit more - and the point I was making is that by pruning those players that are not up to Championship standard, by investing in fewer but more quality players - you can supplement your squad with your OWN youngsters and achieve a better balance between the two.
