Wow, from surprise to shock to "arse get on with it" is PB :Worthy: that difficult a manager to get on with?

Or, is our transfer / retention policy to low / slow:unsure:

I wouldn't loose sleep over Thompson, He wasn't even our first choice centre back in 4 years he was here, he only come good with Anton at the back. He is replaceable as we will get a tall & decent central back who can deal with set pieces. Bury will struggle to keep up the payments of the players wages, especially if they are struggling near the bottom half by December, they would push Thompson's out of the door in 2018.

There has to be a problem with our recruitment and retention policy at this time of year. Every season we look on for the initial weeks as other clubs do business.
Why? Every single year without fail.

The thing that bothers me is that these players are going to a lower league or smaller clubs
If these players are so important to keep ,then go that little bit more and sign them .
But saying this is Southend a joke.of.a.club

If you really believe that losing Adam Thompson on a free is not a big deal then you are deluded.

If you really think that most L1 / L2 player leaves for a fee then you're deluded.

We'll be able to replace Thommo. Been here for 4 years - we stood by him throughout his injuries and gave him the opportunity last season. He only really got better when Ferdinand was alongside him. He's now (probably) been offered a little more money and he's off even though we offered him a 2 year contract.

Not his biggest fan so not too fussed he has gone. His lack of ambition backs this up.

The best move we could make this summer is to get rid of brown

Explain why a club that has improved its league position every year in the last 4 seasons would be better off without the manager that has masterminded this?

Who the **** do you think we should have as Manager? Arsene Wenger? Wake up people

If you remember when we were struggling to get the points we needed at the sharp end of the season PB questioned if two or three players were worrying that if we got promotion they might not get the contracts they were looking for. I wonder if two of those players have revealed themselves over the last couple of days and share my view actually that they have been and only will be viewed as squad players. Perhaps they prefer being bigger fish in a smaller pool and that allied with their limited abilities leaves me feeling pretty neutral about their moves. I remember listing about 2 years ago that they were of limited ability and were borderline L2/L1 players a share viewed by Bradford and Watford clearly.

Maybe time for John White to make the full transition to CB anyway?

Do you think he'll stay?

He had two (or one and half to be pedantic) of his best ever games for us against Fleetwood and Gillingham but was summarily dropped after each.

Better off as a first pick at Col U probably.

John White has been a good servant but would be surprised he stays either for much the same reasons. I suspect Ricky Duncan will be delighted that these departures give a better line of sight to the first team squad for some of the youngsters breaking through this year too. PB recruitment policy should be quality not quantity and this will afford those youngsters more opportunity to be in and around the match day squads. What is the point of having an U21 team if there path is blocked by journeymen pro's and youngsters from other clubs like Amos and the boy from Swansea?

No I think it will be better to get some better defenders in

Who do you suggest will come to a 'joke of a club' that you allude to?
If we're such a joke, best you stay away:thumbdown:

Genuinely (and maybe I have matured in my older age) if we wont beat the wage structures set in place to sign or keep a player, I wont hold that against the current regime of Southend United. I may be frustrated and get emotional for a short time, but I will not begrudge southend being used as a cash cow by players.

I will also say one thing. Although it is not very often, its certainly not heard of for someone to stay in a working environment even though the company down the road are offering a few more pounds a month, remember £500 a week is another £25k we have to find, that's 60 fans extra through the gates to cover that increase every game, you do that with each player out of contact and it maybe that you need to find another 300 people a game to cover the extra costs. If the money isn't there, it isn't there...... Players will come and go, just like we will unfortunately. I've still to find a fan that's seen every game that southend have ever played in since they were formed. But we all hope that the club and the legacy during our support stays in line for many many years to come........

At least it's our choice if Lenny stays or goes. The Thompson Bury move is hard to understand but he'll have an agent who'll have been touting him around Championship clubs to see if there's any interest and maybe there just wasn't. Maybe he isn't as highly rated as we thought. The NI call up doesn't mean too much, he's been there before and let's be honest, how many Northern Irish centre backs are there at L1 level or above. It won't be a big group that's for sure. Regarding PB's role in all this, since he arrived we've improved each season, and have lost quite a few 'irreplaceable' players along the way. His record shows he usually gets it right and any suggestion he should go is ridiculous.

I am afraid he needs a new agent- his next move should have been championship with now or with us. Yes his brilliant agent has him signing end May for a tin pot L1 side on a 3 year deal. Bury then will fall apart as usual and he will be part of a team that ships plenty of goals, another step back.

It was purely ££££ - at this level agents focus on that solely. The first thing he should have done is get an agent with great connections at Championship and above- and then said if not this year next I want to cement my international place and get a move to the Championship. Sadly he doesn't have that agent.

Look who the have signed- Beckford- now that tells you everything. High wages alleged attitude problems, and questionable fitness/workrate. We might have left it vey late but made sure we get players stepping down who have the right attitude- Cox, Fortune and Ferdinand all spot on attitude.

Its so easy to waste money quickly on the wrong people and its something that Bury have excelled at. In Thompson's case they probable have got it right- but the player will soon regret the move..

if the agent really cared about his carrier and not His Own payment, he would have done well to sign a new contract as you said either at southend or at a higher level club, a club with a quick buck to spend in the here and now, playing away from where he has been brought up (Hertfordshire) in front of 3000 people, to a club who are smaller than your current (regardless of their annual spend) and who's league position would suggest aren't as successful , to me is only about 1 think, and that's for the agent to make a quick buck whilst manipulating his client to also pick up a quick buck

The scary thing now, is that for every player we let go, (because of money That extra £300-£500 a week) now works out a lot more to the club having to go through the recruitment process (just like any company whilst employing staff) costs to agents/scouts/medical staff/inflated signing on feas/ new wage structures...

Me and a few mates shared a taxi from the station to the ground with Ron martin on the last away game at Shrewsbury and on transfers he said they are looking for 7 or 8 new signings this season, which I though at the time was more than necessarily needed. Maybe he had some inklings back then??

Well you should always prepare for the worst and there was no guarantees that anyone out of contract was gonna re-sign

Whats more of a worry to me is losing players to the likes of Bury & Mansfield.........:blush::blush:

Ive also been told by the same guy who told me Worrell was off to Millwall 3 weeks before it was announced that Lenny is close to sealing a move to Millwall...............this guy should know as he used to play for us but is now part of Millwalls coaching staff!!!
