It happens. we will sign a replacement on a free. Just like all our signings last summer
It does, but any club with ambition, as PB is so keen to talk about its importance, should not allow its best performers who are young and still improving to leave for a club in the same league.

Even if we signed another central defender, Ferdinand can never play 46 games a season and we would be very hard pushed to find better than Thompson.

If he was on a two/three year deal he would easily be worth at least £250k. Instead, he's gone on a free.

This hurts like a bitch, he's improved a hell of a lot and to see him leave to join a poor team sucks. Big task for Phil now to bring in replacements.

Was clearly offered more money and took it. A good player but ultimately part of a team that didn't make the playoffs. Therefore he is replaceable. Sad he's left but there will be better players out there. Are we a club with endless pots to spend on wages? No. Clubs like Bury splash the cash on players but then realise they are in trouble with finances come Christmas. It's frustrating but we have been in this position countless times - but we always seem to put together a squad which is there or there abouts. Who knows - his replacement might be better and help us into the top six next season.

We heard players throughout the season saying things like 'The team spirit here is the best of my career' etc... Cox, Fortune, Wordsworth have all said it. I'm beginning to wonder what that means to a player or if it were even true at all.

Our promotion chances are being slowly dismantled at the moment.

It's not just losing Tommo that's the worst thing, it's how it affects the remaining players. The 'big name' players having already tweeted their disappointment, Cox especially seemingly annoyed. They will be as equally perplexed by the situation.

He improved a load last season for sure. How much was to do with Ferdinand being alongside him I don't know to be honest. The bit that's annoying is that we spent years developing him and as soon as he has a decent season he jumps ship.

Thompson missed the next two games after the Bristol Rovers away match, when certain players were questioned on their desire to get the club to a higher level, through fear of losing their place in the side.

IF he was one of those, I think we'd be better off without him.

You have got to admit that the club are a shambles at letting contracts run down and putting themselves in this position on the back of a good season with a supposed settled happy squad. A lot of other clubs have made signings but we always seem to struggle to get any of our targets in early. This is not me panicking just stating a fact

Maybe another 'unloved'.......................? Perhaps the first signing should be a Welfare Officer or Counsellor?

I feel this seasons failure was PB's last chance with an expensive squad. Adapting to mid table safety at best could be all we could expect.

Just seen this, I am flabbergasted!

What a f****** turncoat !

Livid!

1st we lose a player to Mansfield and now a key player to Bury FFs! What is going on?

Our squad was not expensive last season. PB's budget was mid table safety, we just punched above our weight.

Bit of a generic interview from a footballer, found the comment about Bury's facilities and ambition an interesting quote though. (not to mention the "effort they put in to sign me").... That rings a bell?

Maybe Thomo knows more about tomorrows front page Echo article about the future of Fossets Farm then we do?

Coughlan also quoted as saying "No doubt he is a big loss to us".

So a player we stood by through injury, helped to flourish and gave opportunity to, has left. What's new about that in football? I am sure he has his reasons and clearly his reasoning was sufficient to make him jump ship. He may have made a good choice and then again he may not have. Only time will tell. He was good, improving and appeared to have the potential to improve further. He was not irreplaceable.

Last summer people had us down for being relegated and we finished a point outside of the play offs.

Im not sure this season was a failure unless people actually thought promotion was the minimum. We did better than the season before so we made progress despite missing out.
