Its a long way up North from Plymouth and no palm trees so I dont think theres any possibility either that he would contemplate playing in the Scottish Premiership, linking up with Gerrard, and maybe playing in Europe whilst collecting a much larger pay packet, when the Essex riviera awaits

Rubbish - there are definitely palm trees in Southend.

A friend of mine who works for Sky Sports thinks that were close to signing Sonny Bradley from Plymouth. I've bet him £20 that we won't, and he's taken the bet! I guess we'll see.

I'm not sure someone who works for Sky Sports would be a particularly good source as I've never got the impression that they cover the lower leagues particularly thoroughly. I reckon the local Plymouth paper or Chris Phillips would be better sources so that's probably not a bad bet.

hes going luton

I can't work out why you'd rather sign for Luton than us... do they have a load of cash?!

That must be it because they’ve got nothing else going for them. Apart from Nathan Jones perhaps but then we’ve got CP.

According to a quick Google search Luton are in 'pole position' to sign Bradley. I'm not sure why you'd want to move to a newly promoted side when you have the option of an established League One side unless the money is that much better. If we did sign him and Turner also signed as suggested we'd have a lot of CB's. I thought it'd be a case of one or the other. I wonder if there's been any interest for AF?

Manton would give us some continuity from last season, I'd be cuffed if he signed and stayed fit. A possible fee paid there? I thought he had a year left and was retained by Scunthorpe?

Do people think that when a footballer signs for a club, he has to live within 100yds of the stadium? Yes, Luton's a dump, but it is surrounded by town and villages that are great places to live.

The fact that he'd have to play at Kenilworth Road 25 times a year wouldn't be too much of a disincentive.

That said, rejecting us would be plain lunacy. Dream move for any player in world football.

Two thoughts... Firstly, Luton are a decent size club. They get good crowds, are ambitious and have a decent pedigree (bar their stint in the basement and the Vanarama). I would also argue that Jonah has a pretty robust budget to improve his squad next season (opinion, rather than fact).
Secondly, if Luton were to put a similar financial package to us on the table, would his dosh not go further in that part of the world? Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties have a much lower cost of living than our beautiful spot on the Essex Riviera, so surely that would play into it?

Their average attendance last year was 8676, which is 1500 more than us. Given that they've been promoted there's a chance it will break 9000 next year. Luton might not be a nice place to live but the football club itself is pretty big for this level, they've had a poor few years but I'd say they are a bigger club than us.

the thing is that all we have at the moment is rumour and hearsay. If he goes to Luton then so be it. It really isn't something worth getting too upset about. Chill out chums, the close season is young yet.

Why would history have anything to do with moving to a club?

Spent some time with Chris Kamara on Saturday evening we were talking about his time at Luton in the Pleat era. He broke Paul Merson's nose with an 'accidental' elbow....Ian Wright done him with a revenge over the top tackle.....The game has changed of course.
