2017 General Election thread

Queen's Speech will be next Wednesday, which will annoy Liz as it's smack bang in the middle of Royal Ascot and I'm sure she'd rather be punting a few quid on the nag running a race than the old nag (apparantly) running the country.

You're easily confused aren't you?

Because he's not part and doesn't buy into the 'extreme left' policy of JC and those sycophants around him
and also because like many many other entrepreneurs and small business men and women up and down the country he prospered under Blair and the 'New Labour' philosophy. And let's not forget it was a Labour party in name only. Many, including Blair himself, are and were more right wing than many a centre left Conservative.

And he explains why he voted Tory but I suppose you chose to not hear that bit or you just didn't bother watching it all.

There's nothing "extreme left" about Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party to be found in the 2017 manifesto.

Couldn't be bothered to watch more than a minute. Please explain why he voted Tory, apart from hatred of JC.

Her Majesty knows her priorities. She will attend the state opening of Parliament, then head over to Royal Ascot. It's not far and I don't believe traffic is ever something she has to worry about.

(This per a BBC racing reporter I follow on Twitter).

Yes there is, you just choose not to see it. And nothing, absolutely nothing, anyone else can do or say will prevent you from seeing outside your myopic Socialist bubble. With regard the manifesto. He's just said what the party wanted him to say regardless of whether it ties in with his principles or not. Just as the video points out.

What's more you obviously have no understanding of where JC comes from and where his true allegiances lie. Just like a lot of other people you've been sucked into believing the ********.

Sounds like a load of paranoid alarmist ******** spread by those conspiracy theory loons. What are his true allegiences then?

Bearing in mind the recent tragedies that have exposed the failings of austerity it’s pretty laughable that a manifesto that calls for fully funded public services and tax rises for only the very richest is seen as ‘extreme left’. Would anyone like to highlight an ‘extreme left’ policy? I can’t say I am aware of any.

You can't ****ing help yourself can you. Politicising a tragic event even before the flames have been extinguished. This site just reached a new low. I'm outa here. Some on here I'd quite happily put on their arses.

Responding to a genuine question with the threat of violence is indeed a new low. You're better than that BB.

I can see the case for getting right on the front foot here politically. The ***** responsible for this will want to set the agenda and control the argument. Don't let them.

You'd better explain what they are then.

Missing your "landslide" majority already? :winking:

PS You're rather missing the point here that the manifesto was put together by a party committee and not just by JC.

I doubt it. I reckon she'll pop down to the nearest bookies and watch from there. Maybe get a train down the next day.

Someone said yesterday somewhere to bear in mind that the Hillsborough cover up began before the bodies had even left the stadium.

I'd imagine there are going to be multiple failures that have contributed to this preventable tragedy, and that goes from how the housing was used and managed, to how modifications were designed and installed, to how the local and current government has failed to take seriously the living conditions and health and safety of private and social tenants in this country. Also the austerity measures will have impacted on the ability of the emergency services to do fire protection work and the speed in which they could have responded on Monday.

The residents/victims/survivors of this tragedy have clearly been politicising this issue for years and the only thing they've had back from the council is threats - it's disrespectful to say this isn't the time for politics, IMO.

Think you are going to find the Government were first warned about this in 1999 and again in 2009 anything in common there? But this shouldn't be politicised as more likely management company/suppliers etc.

I assume you have not heard any of the interviews with the residents then? Plenty of them are putting the blame firmly at the door of the landlords, the council the government.
I assume you have not read any newspapers then? Plenty of them are putting the blame firmly at the door of the landlords, the council the government.
£10 million spent on cosmetics of the building that sound likely to have quickened the pace of the flames, residents petitions on fire safety ignored and no access to legal aid, reports on fire safety of tower blocks shelved by the Minister for Housing, home safety laws rejected in Parliament last year by all of the landlord MPs, Boris Johnson axed 10 fire stations and 552 firefighters.
Why would this forum be the only place to hide from the fact that political decisions have real world impact?
You have expressed anger on here a few times, anger is a healthy emotion but it should be aimed in the right direction. I’d suggest if you are angry that someone would point out that actions have consequences you should really be angry about the actions that have consequences.

all of those people who were burying legitimate concerns whether it was in 1999, 2009 or 2017 should be made to answer for their actions. First task of landlords, local and national government is to keep the public safe.

So what did Labour do after the fire in Lakanal Southwark did they try and introduce any legislation whilst they were still in power? I think you are fully aware of the answer but will sidestep it as usual to use your common default of blame the Tories for everything. As I previously said there were warning back in 1999 but they were ignored by a Labour government for 11 years.
