Absolutely, I would prefer we did not sign anyone right now (and keep the budget available) if the players are not good enough to get into the first XI .......... who knows what might turn up later in the season.

Yeah, I knew Brown was chasing him at the early part of the week, hadn't heard anything re: progress though. Would be a very good signing for this level. Not sure of the relationship, but didn't he also play with Simon Cox at Reading?

Orient have according to a Sky Sports journalist put in a big bid for Matt Green of Mansfield.

Therefore if true then surely he would be bought to replace Simpson.

Green in my opinion is the more proven of the two.

500k at this level for someone who is 30 in 5 months and only performed consistently in the Conferenece is terrible business!

Completely agree with all of that, and seems to have been only successful at Mansfield throughout his career.
Besides, why would Mansfield sell their striker to a possible promotion chasing rival, and reject an offer from Bradford (abeit, obviously money would come down to it).

Phil Brown is in talks with 6 players this week. Two Premier League centre backs, and a Championship defender. He's also made offers for three strikers, two of which are in the Premier League.
So he is trying. It seems that clubs, players and agents are leaving it late so as to get the best deal.

Are these bids to buy the players permanently or are some season loans? If they are bids do you have an idea of the actual bids placed? Just curious as we could be bidding for many players but if our bids are way below the going rate then it really does not matter if we are bidding for a 100 players as not going to sign them? You seem to have a source so thought my I would ask?

I have no idea about the size of the bids, and am not going to pretend that I do.
