Phil Brown will be on a beach somewhere getting some down time as he should be, the entire football world is doing the same. I am sure his mobile phone is on though.

You will be pleased to know that's exactly where I saw PB this week. On the beach.....Southend beach to be precise, having an early run. Before he went off to interview another player.

I think he was misheard.

They were poker players down the casino.

PB come across as a person who is dedicated to his job as manager of SUFC, you may or may not like him a a person or think much of him as a manager ,but im pretty sure he would have held talks with quite a few players and agents by now. Trouble is at this point in time ,,most player will be wanting time away and also hoping some other clubs will also be courting them, so wont be in a hurry to give PB an answer as yet.they will be holding out for the best deal they can get for themselves.

These are very likely to be the set of circumstances.
it is a shame that there are so many negative and anti PB posters,
Sometimes, it appears the bloke can't garner some support whatever happens.

Definitely think the Accy goalkeeper, Etheridge, is worth some consideration in our quest for someone to replace Dan, ex Chelsea and Charlton and still only 26. Perfectly suited to provide cover while Ted continues to prepare to step up - if he's not ready yet.

Latest news from the Echo.....PB is in talks with Glen Rea to discuss a return, presumably permanent. Brown really rates the guy. I really didn't see enough of him in a settled position to really have a view, but it wouldn't be the end of my world if he signed. Interesting that PB tends towards players he has already had at Roots Hall.

Oh no.

He offered nothing constructive whatsoever.

Brighton and Luton don't want him then?

In other news PB has asked Dick Bate to return to coach the defence.

Sounds like time to bung a pony on relegation.

What is good about Rea in particular is his versatility, ability to play in midfield or defence, but aside from that, from what I have seen, nothing to suggest a much better signing, although I suppose the above could be useful in the squad sense, and Phil just may feel he can develop the lads game further?

He wants to use him mainly as a centre back this time. Phil's also going after midfielder Robbie Weir from Burton.

I felt he always looked better at centre back, although did play in the holding midfield role for the Irish Under 21 side.

I'd be happy for him to be back as a centre back. Was very highly rated at Brighton, and his agent is ex-Shrimper David Lee as well.

He also looks after Lyle Taylor at Wimbledon, who I like the look of. Would cost money, but PB said that they may have to to improve out attacking play.

Probably the understatement of the year.

If DW stays and plays at right-back, we could have a back four of :

Worrall-Thompson and Rea-Coker.

Rea would be a brilliant signing if we can get him on a permanent deal. Still only 21, has played Republic of Ireland U21 football, very versatile and has bags of potential - exactly the sort of player we should be targeting. From what I understand, the majority of Luton fans rated him highly and thought he was too good for League 2, but not good enough to be fighting for a place at Brighton. If they had the option to sign him, I've no doubt they would, but I think Rea is probably setting his sights to League 1.

If we got him, we'd only need one more centre back, preferably an experienced centre back. That would leave us with two youngsters (Thompson & Rea) and two wise heads to help them develop (Barrett & ?). Really hope this one happens.
