At 27 (28 in May) he has likely peaked.

To give you some context Noor has just turned 28, Bridge was 28 going into this season, Cav is 29. These were our key players a year or two ago and now everyone wants them gone as they’ve dropped off. I’d be betting that Linney won’t get as many goals next season.

Let’s instead find the player about to breakout and have their career year.

Exactly. Parillon proves that there are players out there.

Was told yesterday that Altrincham have already turned down a £200k bid from Fleetwood for Linney, puts him firmly out of our reach. Shame, thought he was great.

Absolutely spot on to be fair. And in all honesty, signing Linney doesn’t feel like COSU’s style. I feel like we’re more about finding the next Linney rather than paying an extortionate amount for the current one.

Alty signed Linney from FC United of Manchester, for what was probably a modest fee. I feel like our focus should be on paying £30k for promising players with re-sale value, and we seem to be set up pretty well scouting wise to do that. Not dropping £300k on players we’re unlikely to get any return on.

Keep Bonne he is our best striker , Kendall is a work in progress, Preseason i had high hopes for Walker until that injury curtailed his form and fitness , still have high hopes for him, undecided on Hopper but he has a contract i believe for another season , let Waldron go ,if we after a proven goalscorer its going to cost COSU a lot off money therefore i hope they are scowering the lower divisions for a young up and comer or scouting young ones who will be released from clubs higher up Championship or Premiership with potential tobe that person, Off season going to be very interesting when it comes to signing new players, my thoughts are we need 5 new signings minimum 1 or 2 CDs a LWB .a striker and a midfield general and leader

Surely There’s no way Kev won’t want to extend the contracts for Ralph , Bridge and Bonne. With Goodliffe and Golding gone as loaners and no doubt Waldron gone, that leaves us back with the small squad syndrome of just 18.
So bringing in 6 at a minimum would be wise, hopefully with an early plunge into the loan market for the equivalent of another Pepple, another young Bridge from higher up the food ,chain and a couple more Goulding’s, preferably on a season long loan
We’ve proved we can do it recruitment wise

Bonne has scored 2 goals. He may be our best striker, but that’s a low bar. Given he is out of contract I’d hope they are looking to see where there is someone with his attributes but can also score goals.

With Bonne, it's like we have had part 1 and part 2. The first part he was not mobile enough and not very fast as he had no pre season, he also couldn't score, was easily marked, and was lacking confidence in front of goal. I would definitely dump that one. Part 2 is much better. He's fully up to speed. He's much quicker, he's a nuisance, he's doing a much better job all-round for the team, and......he's scoring goals, and looks like scoring more. He's even being voted as Man Of The Match nowadays, something that definitely didn't happen earlier. It's another season at least for me.

I said it on another thread, if he can add more goals and keep on improving towards his best, he could be the one to really help us push on. Also can see he is starting to enjoy himself which is always a good sign. Come Macca prove me right!

I Guess the question is do we need both Hopper and Bonne? Id say no and of the two at present id want Bonne. Always thought Hopper was an odd signing and made worse by the fact he in under contract. if both has contracts until the end of the season id happily let Hopper go and offer Bonne a contract. As it stand we will have in the summer

Hopper - one goal
Kendall - two goals
Walker - five goals

Bonne will technically leave in May and Waldron needs to go and assume Wood also
If we were to sign Bonne that leaves space for one more. If so wed need to make sure we get it as spot on as we can. Over a full season i doubt if any of the above or current showing would score double figures. but if we can find he missing 20 goals a season the rest chip in with 8 or 9 then wed have a chance. Also need more goals from midfield

I think we’ve gone overboard on the clear out talk. More importantly sort out the team spirit, gelling and bedding in. We’ll be alright with a full pre-season behind us plus a few additions to replace loans and key starters in spine of team. LCP looks great, will struggle to keep hold of him once fully up to speed.

I think Coker will go out on loan next season (maybe to non playoff hopeful team in NL), just a hunch.

Husin, Bridge, Miley, KAF, etc are all excellent squad players.

This was a big miss in the summer - not necessarily helped by the embargo and likely missing out on targets but that creative, 10 goal a season midfielder has been missing for a long time.

It also depends on what formation KM see's as our best going forward. The front 3 in recent weeks has been far better in my opinion than the front 2 so you could have Bonne and Hopper as your central option, leaving Kendall and Walker as options either side so ideally looking for a goal scoring LF/RF.

More worryingly for us will be strengthening the defence. We need competition for LWB with Bridge, not sure Crowther or Gubbins are good enough to start and potentially you might need to replace GSM. So that's potentially a RWB, at least 2 CB's and a LWB.

yep that all makes sense

As the club has a one year extension option on Bonne, given the time and effort put in to turn him into a now very useful front man, I'd be shocked if the option isn't taken on him.

I'd like to think his power, pace, aerial ability and general ****housery will be very useful next season alongside (hopefully) a new marquee striker signing that proves to be ruthless infront of goal.

Depends really on the alternatives. What if his extension will also trigger a pay rise? What if there is better available?

I wouldn't be surprised if he stays or is released.

Eastleigh Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Nathan Tshikuna, on a permanent deal from Tamworth FC until the end of the season.*

The attacking midfielder joins the Spitfires following a two-year stint with fellow Vanarama National League side, Tamworth. During their Vanarama National League North title winning campaign last season, he contributed nine goals in his 42 appearances for the Staffordshire side.

Back in January of this year, the 26-year-old was involved in Tamworth’s eye catching Emirates FA Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur, and put in an impressive performance.

So far in the 2024/25 season, Tshikuna has racked up a tally of eight goals in the league, and will be coming down to Eastleigh with an eye to be adding more to that number.

Tshikuna signs his first full-time contract in football, and will be with the Spitfires for the remainder of the season.

Upon joining the Eastleigh, Tshikuna said: “With [Eastleigh] being a full-time outfit, it sparked interest in my mind!”

*Subject to approval from the FA and The National League.

Could we have not gone in for him?

Also like Tyrese Shade forward for them, we will be playing them in a couple of weeks. Keep an eye out for him.

Bonne hasn't been a proven goal scorer for years, he is not go enough anymore and with Hopper here there's no need for two of the same. Even though he's better than Hopper. Better options will be out there in the summer.
You say “for years” yet 3 years ago (21/22 season) he was getting 12 in 29 starts and 14 sub appearances for Ipswich in L1? So not so many years…

If we are to play three up top anything like regularly we need at least six strikers. So keeping the four mentioned (Bonne, Hopper, Walker, Kendall) leaves the opportunity to bring in at least two good additional strikers.
