Quote[/b] (Maldon Blues @ Dec. 22 2005,14:04)]Cambridge United, September 1989. Think we lost 2-1.
Remember that one, Crowny poked a cheeky shot through John Vaughan's legs from a tight angle.

First Away for me was at Fulham in 1982 in the Milk Cup as it was then called. We lost 4-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate. Ray Houghton pulling the strings for Fulham, Steve Yates scoring a rare goal for us, I remember nothing of the game now...

First away game i took my boy to (then 3, now 5) was against Macclesfield in the 03/04 season where we won 2-1, he was picked out of the away fans (as he was the youngest by about 15 years) to go on the pitch at half time and take shots against their mascot 'Roary' the Lion. A great day all round....

Col U FA Cup 1st round replay in 1984. We lost 3-2 aet. Went with a few friends and one their dads when I was 15. He took us in the Col U terracing along the touchline by mistake. There was bad atmosphere that night - the Col******r fans behind us were singing 'Ginger is a jigsaw' before kick-off which we later found out referred to the infamous knife attack on Ginger Lee. My mate's dad ushered us away from the singing hordes to the front of the stand out of cover so that we got rained on on and off for 120 minutes. Also remembering him advising us to 'hide your scarves' and 'keep quiet' if we scored which we found impossible to keep to when Phillips scored a cracking goal which went in off the cross bar. Equally spectacular was Paul Clark's diving header own goal. A great cup tie and all in all a rather memorable night.

I remember the first match (2-2) having an excellent atmosphere being in the North Bank. I hadn't been watching Southend long but it sounded really loud to me. I look back at the attendance now - only 2935. Incredible! Not bad, though when most of that season we were getting 1500-1800. How could the club have survived on that? Oh yes, we nearly didn't.

Rochdale, 01/02 season maybe. When currethers broke the net. We won 1-0!

My Dad took me to Northampton away in the 70's

Billy Best scored for 1-1

Pitch was one half of cricket ground there was just a rope along one side of pitch

Different time and era..........

Couldn't believe it when home fans chanted "Cobblers! Cobblers!"

So rude

we were all over the r's for the first 25mins, Andy Rammell missing a score of chances

after the opening exchanges the r's settled down and ended up trouncing us 4-0

andy harris managing to get on the score sheet with a fine header from 15yds past simon royce

ooops wrong net
I've got a feeling that was my first away game too.

I'd been racking my brains all the way through this thread trying to work out which game was my first and I'm about 95% sure this was it.

I remember Trevor Sincliar in particular getting a lot of stick from the Southend fans.

My first awayday was at Cambridge in May '93. John Cornwell scored an absolute screamer...

...such a shame we are already 3-0 down. Still top day, with absolutely shedloads of Shrimpers travelling up the M11 that day.

More like John Spencer for his over-zealous & inciteful celebration in front of the away-end!

Leyton Orient away a few seasons ago, can't remeber which season. It was a Tuesday night, and we lost. As usual.
