I agree it could of been 7 or 8 but we were all over em for a short period at the start of the game[b said:Quote[/b] (Angell Delight @ Dec. 21 2005,19:25)]We were all over Rangers for 25mins? Think you were watching a different game statski, from where I was sitting we were diabolical all game and it could have been 7 or 8!! The only chance I remember us having was late in the game when our Dutch sub Peter Durson(?) put it wide, his only appearance in a Shrimpers shirt.
yup, put through with a precision pass by Rob Newman! You don't hear that very often[b said:Quote[/b] (southend_utd_fan @ Dec. 21 2005,18:17)]Lincoln City in 2002 I think? We won 1-0, Steven Clark scored!
Ah yes. I remember that day well. You were a young little scalywag sitting in the back of the mini bus watching us lot get hammered whilst you were drinking your coke![b said:Quote[/b] (Shrimper2thecore @ Dec. 21 2005,19:05)]Yes
Leyton Orient away
We ran out 2-0 winners
Who let the Abbey out!!!!!!
We had a keeper called Ray White and if memory serves the Brighton game was his first away game as well. I had forgotten about the "10th goal".[b said:Quote[/b] (Mick @ Dec. 21 2005,21:28)].... but we did get a fine goal.[b said:Quote[/b] (canveyshrimper @ Dec. 21 2005,16:10)]Brighton in 1965.
We lost 9 bloody 1,Still our record defeat.
(and fortunately the referee didn't notice their 10th goal come out of the back of the net off the staunchions they used to have in those days!)
What a great debut - no wonder you were hooked !
That was about my fourth away game, the first being at Layer Road 40 and a half years ago. Frightening thought!
Oh and it's hardly changed a bit.
It doesn't; it was his third away match.[b said:Quote[/b] (canveyshrimper @ Dec. 22 2005,09:45)]We had a keeper called Ray White and if memory serves the Brighton game was his first away game as well. Memories of Brentford 1969? When Gary Moore "scored" and the ball slipped through a hole in the side netting and we ended up losing the match.
It is my masochistic streak that keeps me coming, though not many away games these days.
The rest you say is correct but I DEFINITELY don't remember that first 25mins you talk about!![b said:Quote[/b] (statski77 @ Dec. 22 2005,08:29)]I agree it could of been 7 or 8 but we were all over em for a short period at the start of the game[b said:Quote[/b] (Angell Delight @ Dec. 21 2005,19:25)]We were all over Rangers for 25mins? after that we were diabolical
peter durson, I remember that shot of his that screamed across the box and went out for a throw in
Was telling Draft Shrimper about Brushy's og at Maidstone a little while ago - magnificent 30-yarder over Sammy's head.....OOPS![b said:Quote[/b] (Ron Manager @ Dec. 22 2005,10:06)]Maidstone away....double decker bus....Andy Ansah's debut....comedy own goal from Brushy....more sand on the pitch than grass.....a very temporary stand behind the goal (turns out they didn't have planning permission so it was taken down and never used again).....lost.....poll tax riots in London the same day.
That's about the extent of my memory of my first away game.
I was there too and yes Tilly DID score before the break but if you remember it was (just like the first day the season before at Millwall) in OUR net![b said:Quote[/b] (gilbo @ Dec. 22 2005,00:40)]mine was pompey on opening game of season, 95 or 96. andy thomson scored the first goal in england that day, tilly scored before the break and we lost 4-2. unless west ham in the fa cup 3rd was before that. i really can't remember!!
Better than Flavs too?[b said:Quote[/b] (Mick @ Dec. 22 2005,10:25)]It doesn't; it was his third away match.[b said:Quote[/b] (canveyshrimper @ Dec. 22 2005,09:45)]We had a keeper called Ray White and if memory serves the Brighton game was his first away game as well. It was unsurprisingly his last match for over two years, by which time he had recovered his confidence sufficiently to fill in competently for a few matches as cover for the absolutely first class Trevor Roberts. A better keeper than both Royce and Samsone.
