Two words for you. Scott Houghton.
Arthur Rowley was the manager at the time .It’s true about Myles Weston, he’s a key member of the Daggers squad and perhaps the National League is his level.
The one player that sticks out in my memory has got to be Peter (Spud) Taylor. He was at the start of his career when he made our 1st team, I think maybe 16 years of age. The manager of the day, could have been Ted Fenton was very protective of his very young age and would try and protect him as much as possible from fullback’s that were ‘cloggers’. Spud was always keen to get around his back and deliver a cross. As we know he went on to have an illustrious career.
To be honest it was the only signing that Allison ever got right .
That's good enough for me.Only recall once seeing him beat a man wide and cross the ball, unbelievably that was for Pigott last knockings vs Wycombe at Wembley in Playoff final so we’ll forgive him!
and Errol CrossanNot forgetting John McKinven
Dave Cunningham too.You have to go back 50 years to find a couple of good wingers , Terry Johnson and Bernie Lewis knew just how to beat defenders and get the ball over .
I saw him play a game for Gillingham before we signed him - he was absolutely brilliant.Nobody going for Howard Moore then……
Weren’t you at the second half of the Brighton game?I saw him play a game for Gillingham before we signed him - he was absolutely brilliant.
Gordon Connelly - now that’s a big NO!
That turn and run against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is my abiding memory of Laurent. That and being so unpredictable, even he didn't know what he was going to doI'm sure many will point out reasons why Laurent WASN'T decent but I actually liked him. I thought he was an exciting player to watch on his day, sometimes he even seemed unplayable.
I see that John McKinven got a mention in this thread as one of the great wingers. Prompted by a phot of him currently for sale on eBay, we were talking about him just last night on the way down to Yeovil. Does anyone know who he made his debut against for Southend? It was certainly more than twenty years ago!We haven’t had a decent winger since Francis Laurent and obviously this is the reason we are not scoring goals. Apart from JCR I cannot remember another decent winger in the last 20 years. Anyone got any thoughts?

Many thanks Napster, appreciated.Yes - I’ll let you know tomorrow
He didn’t play as a winger for quite some time here. He came as an inside-left and wasn’t very good.John McKinven....what we wouldn't do for him now?
Great player in the early to mid 1960's I can't remember who he made his debut against
I recall he signed from Raith Rovers and had apparently played there with Jim Baxter. I saw him play when I was a kid, not desperate to know but it would be nice to clear up the debate in our car. I think he broke his leg at least once in the old South Bank end but don’t recall if he hit the wall or was subject to a heavy tackle! He didn’t play as a winger for quite some time here. I could work out his debut if you’re desperate to know !
