Question What is making you happy today?

Had a great time visiting Sutton Hoo today. I'm a bit of a Anglo Saxon history nut so I was in my element, and the number of families that were there obviously shared that interest. Then up to Woodbridge for lunch .All round a good day.

Took a BMW S1000RR out for a test ride. It's going to be my treat to myself when I get back from the Falklands. It really is a crazy piece of kit.

My daughter got a Branch Troll Build a Bear today, and my wife and I told her that when she's asleep, he'll go to sleep too. Hence, took a photo of them in bed, MK Jnr fast akip, and I doctored the photo using MS Paint to make Branch look like he's sleeping. Be one amazed child in the morning......

Magical moments mate, their innocence doesn't last long these days so make the most of it!

A full day at the athletics on Friday, which was excellent, even if bereft of any GB success. We had four hours to kill between sessions, but luckily there is an urban beach/playground between the London Stadium and Westfield which kept us all occupied.

I've already put my name down for tickets for next year's World Indoors in Birmingham...

Oooh didn't realise that Birmingham had the World Indoors.
We went to the National indoors a few times in Sheffield which was good fun. Not elite quality but a good chance to see a few famous athletes and cheap.

What I liked in particular about the Worlds was the family atmosphere to it all. Just a really pleasant environment for the children to be in. And I knew when they were hooked when Robbie Grabarz cleared his qualifying height and they both went mental!

Spent the weekend in Lincoln City, Oregon on the Pacific coast. Hotel room was right on the beach, with amazing view of the ocean. Slept with the window open listening to the tides rolling in - beautiful. Went on a whale watching cruise from Depoe Bay about 10 miles up the coast and saw about a dozen grey whales. One came within about 10 feet of our boat. This is not making me happy today because I am back at work, but it made me very happy at the time.

My boys' sailing lesson today. They loved it, and I had fun laughing at two of the mothers who were telling their children that sailing, along with horse riding is a life skill. I should have known that they would be in a Mercedes 4x4 when I heard one of the kids was called Hugo!

Thankfully their kids weren't in the same group as my two. If they were I'm sure they would have been distraught to know two of the other kids' father is an Essex boy.

More sailing tomorrow.

We have got into sailing over the past few years and my family love it. It doesn't have to be an expensive sport. Benfleet yacht club is anything but posh.

Where is 'local' ?
