Question What is making you happy today?

Today, for the 1st time since the 29th Jan I had breakfast downstairs. The building work is pretty much finished bar the shouting. All our stuff came out of storage yesterday so the house is still a tip, but at least the end is in sight.

Had to leave work early (happy) because son has chickenpox (not happy) but arrived to a letter from hmrc saying I've got a tax rebate of over £4K (very happy!)

Plenty of money to spend on calamine lotion then. Assuming you can probably look forward to his sis getting it in two weeks as well.

Good luck!

only those that are already good at spelling, then the grammars would crow about how they got kids to pass 10 GCSEs at A grade when they were destined to achieve that anyway

(I live in a grammar area, my kids get A grade GCSEs at the nearest mixed, non religious comp - for context)

An intelligent child will generally do well as long as they are educated at a good school, regardless of whether it's a grammar or a comp. Here in Benfleet, we have two OFSTED outstanding secondary schools in King John and Appleton, and less and less children are being put forward for the 11+ exams to go to the grammars in Southend because of this.

Doesnt mean it is efficient...

I've seen some pretty poorly written SQL in my time. I remember one guy that had written some queries that took hours to run. I re-wrote them all and they took minutes. I wasn't doing anything spectacular either. The only hard bit was deciphering what he had attempted.

Manny Paccquiao fight later this morning. It's massive in HK and the pubs will be rammed. Aussie expats, Filipino domestic helpers and neutrals alike it is going to be a fun day coming off the back of the Lions game. Superb atmosphere for that and it was also National Day public holiday yesterday, a fabulous vibe in general. After the fight there's also a massive Birthday event going on. A boozy weekend under glorious weather yesterday. Possibly showers today but i will be inside for most of it.

My sons school summer fete today. The winners of the spa day in the raffle was two burly firefighters from Corringham station. Watched a kid roll around screaming like a stuffed pig after his grandad took the ball off him in a kick about. Great remark from his dad ' Get up, you ain't Mexican'

And we won a coconut.
