Mouth Ulcers just won't go away and when they do another one appears in a different place!

Normally a sign of an underlying problem, get them checked out.

I really don't know how I feel about today, it would have been my 25th wedding anniversary. I remember the day as a beautiful, happy, perfect day filled with many laughs amongst all our family and friends. Obviously, what happened since means that it is not my 25th wedding anniversary......I know I made the right choice, but I feel really strange today, and I don't like the feeling at all.

Go home and get jiggy with Kev. That'll take your mind off it

Don't worry, it will only last 24 hours!

The weather app on my iPhone. Normally pretty accurate, today though said it had a 40% chance of rain at 1700 0% up until that point. Take the kids out on the bike and it absolutely tips it down on us. Thanks Apple Weather you absolute ****!

got my viva exam in a couple of hours. feel a bit ropey, hopefully nerves rather than actually being ill.

hope to post in the happy thread later...

When are you given any feedback? Is it relatively soon, or do you have to wait a few days? Assuming they pass you, are you able to call yourself Doctor from then on, or do you have to wait until your graduation?

the feedback is within the viva. so i'll come away knowing the outcome and what changes are required (if they are required).

the most normal outcome is that i've 'passed with minor corrections' - I take a couple of weeks to amend my thesis and they sign it off.

a rare outcome is that no changes are required. the more serious outcomes are that major changes are required, with or without another viva exam.

so it could be weeks or months to have the whole things finalised and my degree confirmed. i hope to get it all wrapped up this autumn so i can graduate in January, if not it'll be next summer. once my degree is confirmed then I can start using PhD/Dr, I don't have to wait for the graduation ceremony.

With all that in mind, can I suggest you try to relax a bit! (Coming on here may have the opposite effect!) Don't forget that nerves are normal, they show you care about what you're doing, but maybe what you're feeling is that combined with a touch of excitement?

yeah i've been posting on here as a bit of a distraction because I know there's very little return on trying to cram at the last minute - this has been a 5 year process!

and yes, there is excitement and i'm passionate about what i've done so i'm looking forward to the opportunity to discuss it. but there is the fear of the unknown - they can ask big general comments, as well as pick on a specific word or number within my 400 page thesis! my thesis spans two academic disciplines and my examiners are one from each field, so it's about pitching to both of them which is my main concern.

thanks for the post though, appreciate it (and mk).

Reading up on house prices on The Guardian. Absolutely insane, especially in London. The one bedroom flat in a dodgy area of Hackney that I bought in 1996 for £40K is now "worth" almost ten times that.

How can anyone (let alone young people) buy in London unless they're earning buckets? :stunned:

Guardian columnists can afford it though.... . As well as holiday homes on the South Coast and in Italy.....

Least they're highlighting the issue.

Nurses, firemen, shop workers, dustmen....etc etc. The people that do the infrastructure jobs that keep a country running. I guess they'll just rent forever until they cant afford that, then move out to places more affordble and commute in....until they can't afford that. The the Guardian Journalists and people who do the pointless jobs will have to clean up their own ****.

Just seen an article pop up on my FB page. Some tosser's renting a "room" in his/her place.

Said room being a mattress in a shed in his/her living room.

******.
