Question What are you reading?

'Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in the Land of the Free'

A cracking read that goes some way to explaining why rational and independent thought has been replaced by a radical 'follow thy leader' mentality in all major aspects of American society and why it's especially prevalent in their political system.

just finished the King/Straub follow-up to their first collaboration, The Talisman, called Black House. Superb as always.

Starting reading a Jack Reacher doodah and after a few pages I turned my Kindle off. It's as badly written as any Dan Brown gubbins, so the hunt for a good book goes on.

which one did you start on? his earlier ones are superb. It's not Tolstoy, it's just a good fast read.

Finished Margaret Atwood's 'The Handmaid's Tale', one of the best novels I've read in a while, thought provoking sci-fi/speculative fiction.

Now starting Yoko Ogawa's 'The Housekeeper & The Professor'.

"A Star Called Henry" by Roddy Doyle. I've enjoyed everything I've read by him, so I've no idea why it's taken me so long to get round to this one, but it's very enjoyable, if a bit brutal.

Good book indeed, read it many years ago. Never got round to the follow up.

Just finished "The Altman Code" - Robert Ludlum - It's ok if you like these international espionage/ Oh no don't let the bad guys get this stuff sort of thing - but I have read better.
Now on to Edge by Jeffrey Deaver - one of my faves but is sometimes guilty of putting in too many twists & turns IMO.

Finished Yoko Ogawa's The Housekeeper & The Professor' a nice short read about a housekeeper who goes to work for an old mathmatics professor who only has an 80 minute memory a simple human drama.

Now starting Scarlett Thomas' Our Tragic Universe'.

Just started The Passage which I think someone mentioned before. Someone compared it to The Stand so if its even half as good I will be happy.

Next after that will be The Girl With series
