And?

I liked Regis, can't believe we gave him to Barnsley PLUS cash for Andy Rammell.
Yeah I liked him too. But you must admit he was a bit one-dimensional.

But the point was that we swapped two seemingly valuable players (even if Poole was crap) for two less valuable players.

Tony Richards
Graham Jones
Barry Conlon
Lars Unger
Graham Bressington (for THAT penalty miss alone)
Barrington Belgrave
Lee Nogan

Just a few that spring too mind, I think i may have made a list of potentially worst all time players instead though, never mind!.
Smiffy my son.

A) Lars Unger was a loan and didnt cost us money other than  his wages

B) He wasnt that bad - Single handidly ran the midfield vs Orient in the 3-0 win.

C) Graham Bressington was a class player who scored a lot from the spot and was unlucky to miss at Notts Co.

I think your comments are a tad unfair....

DtS me ol' mucker, I trust you are in fine fettle sir?...

In evaluation of my comments I realise they could be perceived as a tad harsh on these two players mentioned, but as I said I did stray off topic a little....

Lars Unger - reportedly on 5k a week, worth it.... dont think so do you...

Graham Bressington - He missed THAT pen at Notts County which cost us our only real opportunity of an appearance at the old Wembley...and probably cost us hundreds of thousands in revenue, did it not?...

So although not strictly on topic, these two players alone probably cost us in the region of £500,000...

I'm sure the club quoted a £40K fee at the time. Which is why I was surprised he only signed a 16 month contract.

Really? Oh, I really thought we paid £40k for him. Ok then, Mark Rawle can be thrown into the pot of players we paid money for recently and got sod all back.

Have to agree with HKB about Gary Poole. He looked solid until fat Baz left. No wonder he followed him up to St Andrews as soon as he could. I actually sat next to him on a plane from Stansted to Glasgow one weekend & as soon as I realised it was him (he had put on about 7 stone since he played for us) I got talking to him about SUFC. Yes, he still had some level of arrogance (lets be honest which pro footballer doesn't), and did speak with some affection about that team Fry put together ("everyone in the club at that time apart from Jobson believed getting into the Premier League would definitely happen"). He blamed his loss of form on Peter Taylor who he said was a good coach but couldn't motivate the team the way that Fry, Stein & Howell could. Trivia fans, the reason GP was travelling up to Glasgow was that one of his big football mates is (now ex-Celtic player) Steve Guppy and they were allegedly going on a lap-dancing tour of the city centre!!!

Bressington is also another player who IMHO should not be slated for his performances, he just seems to have picked up his Hall of Shame tag for THAT penalty miss.

England missed out on a World Cup Final partly because Stuart Pearce missed a penalty but people don't hate him for it.

Bress gets an overly hard time, imo.

Now come on, nobody is saying they hate the guy, far from it, I actually do believe he was a decent player, I was just pointing out that the miss at Notts County could of cost the club alot of money, which is along the lines of the topic...

But then from my vague recollections of the match.....didnt someone miss a sitter during normal time.

Also, didnt we let in a soft equaliser in the 2nd leg? I always look back on Bressington with fond regards for a player who played most of his games for us during a tricky period for the club

Notts Co away.... Otto put a header over from 6 yards on about 70 mins, would've put us 2-1 on agg with an away goal

To be fair, a lot of that was spent on (a) the South Stand; and (b) making Roots Hall an all-seater, wasn't it?

Dave Webb is one of the biggest wasters in 2000-01 season, paying £60K on Rawles, 40K on Belgrave, 36K on Pony Richard & finally 12K on Danny Webb (now giving him an route back to League One when playing in Ryman League was more likely for Danny after being one of Weymouth worst striker EVER! - Weymouth fans told me). Webb was an great managers in SUFC history which I got repect for, but not in his 3rd spell.

Don't think Dudder was an waste of money, if not for his goals, we would not pick up wins over Cambridge, Macclefield & Kiddy in Feb 2004, if we picked just 1 win out of these lot & an tough March & April to come, we would be startling relegation in our face, so cross him off the list. Oh, he make an different when coming on for Gray to turn the game around in our faviour Vs Lincoln at Cardiff.

Matt, wasn't Vic taking advantage of the huge grants that were available to go all seater?

Did we ever pay anything for little ginger Shane Wardley? He came from Cambridge City just before Tes.

no, he came with Tes as part of the deal as they were best mates at the time!
