Waste Of Money

Stats

aka Ian Poulter
Following on from my post earlier about paying money for Tony Richards

Which player do you feel has been the worst for the transfer money we have paid for them

My Top 3

1: Gordon Connelly - £50k for 45mins work, oooh but what a 45mins they were

2: Tony Richards - £36k for 1 good game (Angell Delight called him god after that game against Halifax)
I believe when we went back to barnet for Mark Gower a couple of seasons later they felt that they had ripped us off once so gave us gower at a discount price
hmmm £25k for Gower and £36k for Richards?

3: Martyn Booty - can anyone quote the figure here I know it was something ridiculous, too much money for a left back playing in div 3, oh hang on a right footed left back in div 3!!

How we can only look back and laugh

Pound for pound it has to be Mike Marsh....far from the worst player ever in a Blue shirt but when you consider he cost half a million then in the value for money stakes he must rate fairly low.

Freddy Something from Grays... He was that poor i can't even remember his surname.

And anything spent on Bramble was money wasted...

whatever we paid for and paid to Ronnie Whelan. He fleeced the club and took us down from which we are only just recovering. And he is stilled trundled out by Sky as the 'Southend bod' whenever we are on the box live so he is still creaming readies due to us. Scouse tw&t.:(

Now then, I thought Tes was a potentially great footballer....

The fact that we've never paid anything for him may rule him out.

Apart from the 25 grand it cost to loan him for three months.

The Echo quoted Ron as saying that we had payed 25K for the 3 month loan.

Bit harsh. I don't think I ever saw Marsh give less than 100% playing for us.

Also, without him and Roycie, I think we'd have had one less year in Division One.

Mike Marsh (pound for pound) if you consider what we paid for say, Jay Smith.

Anyone signed for money by Alvin (Conlon, Campbell or Morley for example).

Gary Poole. £250k - and was replaced by Mark Hone. Nuff said.

Stan Collymore. £150k and what did he do for us? Scored 18 in 35 league games, kept us up and went for £3million. Oh...

Gotta be Tony Richards. What a joke. Oh and whatever we paid for Graham Jones!

Given that we've rarely been able to sign the cheque book I think Poole wins hands down. At least with Marsh the quality was there for all to see.
