How can a downloadable highlights package and a radio service that used to be free of charge be worth this much, even with a profit margin tagged on there!!
...Because our international global (and scottish) supporters can't manage air fares every Saturday.

Too true, in this day & age of litigation I'm going to file a lawsuit against Stelios, it's his fault I can't get down as regularly as I used to, the greedy money grabbing bubble!

Before the torrents of abuse start, this is of course tongue firmly in cheek!

The problem here is that it's being priced on the opportunity cost rather than the cost or, indeed, any sort of market generated cost. If it was half the price, even as a student, I'd be much more tempted to go for it. Considering how easy it now is to broadcast media over the Internet, there's no reason for a price that high other than charging ludicrous amounts to desperate fans.

Sadly, I suppose, there's only one way that the price would come down but football fans are too loyal to stop subscribing.

(edited to actually make sense)

Fair point.  But at the time, it looked like a massive pay-day - so I can understand the club going for it in such a big way.
Indeed. Southend United saw the pound signs and got greedy at the expense of the fans ...

Looking at the FLPTV website it looks like they have a few Prem clubs under their World umbrella as well as the 72 League clubs. IIRC ntl own considerable stakes in Newcastle and Aston Villa so it's no coincidence that they have become part of the "World"

As internet connections get faster and TV companies concentrate more and more at "on demand" streaming packages it would seem the likes of FLPTV are here to stay folks

Lets hope should the Football League decide to find a new media company when the contract is up that they find a more customer friendly and competent company to front their internet presence.

I haven't read most of this thread so apologies if this covers old ground. But as an exile I find the price being asked for live commentary(which I can't get anywhere else) and for highlights(I can't get anywhere else) not that extortionate. I'd gladly swap the price of a home shirt for the Highlights and live commentary I get.

It makes me feel much more in touch with the club than a piece of fabric.
And once I've downloaded the highlights to my computer and blasted them on to DVD they will last a damn sight longer then the shoddy merchandise offered by the club & Nike.(alledgedly blah blah blah!!!)

Would be more like a fair price if:

a) the damn thing worked on a regular basis, and

b) the muppets who run it had a clue about customer service.

I can feel a poll coming on...

How dare a club £8 million in debt try to make a bit of money.

Not having subscribed I can't comment on the quality of the service but I'll bet it was pitched to the club quite well and sounded like a great opportunity at the time.

I currently payu th 19.99 option for just radio commentry as i only every get to about 4 away games a year. This thread has got me thinking - what am i actually paying for. I have already paied for the BBC coverage with my license fee, does that mean all i am paying for is them re-broadcasting it over the internet?

No because some Clubs choose to do their own commentary. We have a deal with the BBC to provide ours for us.

Dave,

Just our of interest do the club pay the BBC for providing the commentary or do the BBC pay us?

Sorry folks, 'tis a sad reality of modern life. I've just spent the best part of 40 minutes drafting a very carefully worded e-mail to the Football League for Napster & Leeboy, in order to protect this website.

Please, if you want SZ to stay open, do as Paul says... even though it saddens me to say so.

Matt

People like this respect actions not words. I say we fill a couple of Citroen Picasso's up with some boys and go and have a word.

Hahaha. I wanted to see if anyone noticed.

Noticed? I have just read the first five pages of this thinking it was a current issue and was oblivious to the date! I had come to the conclusion that blue 79 was the mole and had reported the site as a retaliation. :stunned:

You can tell it's old because all the smilies are messed up.

EDIT: Also McScriven and other posters. Oh and of course the date as well.:tumbleweed:
