WARNING!!!

This is ridiculous.

I suggest that this has very little to do with FLPTV and the Football League and much more to do with someone at Southend United squealing.

They're worried because the more these links appear, the less inclined people like me are to fork out cash for the two-bit service from Blues World. How come other sites haven't been targetted? After all, many of them are predominantly unofficial video links.

Still, there are other ways of accessing Blues World without forking out hard-earnt cash ~ the club ain't gonna get my money until they provide a service worthy of it ...

If I were running an official Blues World website i'd offer the subscription back by tempting subscribers with vouchers, free tickets etc. By hook or crook you'll still make a profit.
A dodgy radio link that frequently breaks down and exclusive interviews do not warrant £35 etc. I am also vigorously opposed to Franchise websites (Ikonboard- excepted *licky lick lick * ) the strength of a website is its individuality and Southend should have an official website that is completly independent with local business sponsoring rather than some pop up advert from some multinational travel agency or a gambling promotion. Lets have Pridmore bookies rather than Ladbrookes, they Pridmoore are the guys who turn up every home game to take our money! ( well mine anyway)
What's so wrong about a few video links anyway?
It's time to ask fans what they want from their club and stop treating them as money machines or criminals when, as fanatical as we are, we start/continue swapping videos, pix etc of our beloved club.

And another thing.
Why do websites have those arrogant pop ups? If i'm eating a meal in a restaraunt I don't expect a waiter to stop me midway through masticating a dead cow to entice me on the latest offer from JVC, and if I'm reading a book I don't expect a paragraph to start , in Debt, need a lower rate from your Credit Card?

I did subscribe to Blues World for a couple of seasons and LDV highlights were never in there usually. Can someone who has it this season confirm if the Brizzle highlights are available on there? The links to external clips posted on here were only the 2 most recent games due to lack of webspace so there was no access to the entire back catalogue for this and the past 3 seasons that they offer.

I think the World service is woeful, the video quality is usually poor and low res and until Scriv improved it, the interviews were few and far between. I know a lot of exiled shrimpers have trouble with the live radio strems.

Unfortunately FLPTV have the monopoly on the footage, ergo there is no competing company or group pushing them to provide a better package so I cannot see it improving unless people continue to boycott it or form some kind of pressure group. I might start looking on other fan forums to see if other clubs fans are having the same issues with FLPTV.

We have never not published a report that has been sent in.
I'm not usually one for naming names but I believe this could be our very own Napster.

Too busy beating up the Football League to submit a report about last Saturday's game.

Well I can guess the content of the report anyway:

Che was magnificent blah blah blah. We'd have won easily if Poo Broughton had been playing blah blah blah.

A video camera from the flats taping the game would be a breach of copyright.  Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, the product which is displayed for us within the confines of Roots Hall on a match night is not a game for public display... it is a licenced piece of copyrightable entertainment.

I know, we lawyers have a lot to answer for...

Incidentally, in answer to 2 other scenarios (one which has been asked, one which may be asked):

1. The question of whether you could go to B&L and make a video of the players training would be subject to any individual rights which the players retain in their own "IP" - namely running around with a ball.  However, if all of their IP rights have been licenced to FLPTV, then you can't even film training...

2. You most certainly can recreate events with subbuteo (or, indeed, in the "Pheonix from the Flames" style a la Skinner & Baddiel).  By moving the pieces around in a particular fashion on a green carpet, you are creating your own performance - so you own the IP in it.  The fact that it is based on events elsewhere is purely coincidental... at least I think it is!

Artful - ikonboard used here is not a franchise website but an add on you install into your own website for free.

I do know that other sites tend to use a franchised messageboards. i.e one that is not located in it's own webspace.

You may notice that recently i replaced the ikonboard logo for the one of the main sponsors of ShrimperZone.

Unfortunately those who run football these days forget that a football club's heart and soul exists thanks to the passion of its fans, not how much money it can fleece out of those fans. And Southend United are no exception. Signing up to these moody FLPTV idiots has only served to alienate fans even more, i.e. if you want to see your team in action - and you can't get to the games - then you need to fork out £35 for the privilege of accessing a sub-standard Blues World that barely delivers what it promises.

If the contract was properly drafted, it would already have ended as (going by the comments on here) they have been providing a lousy service, which would surely be in breach of contract.

However given the ITVDigital fiasco, I very much doubt the football league bother drafting contracts properly......

To be fair, Mike, that was a collective bargain, rather than Southend deciding to join FLPTV. The Football League basically made the decision for them.

As for Cousin Weir's comment... I agree!

The fact that the FLPTV contract was not terminated by ITV Digital's insolvency defies belief...

I know. But SUFC are guilty of accepting it without question. There are some clubs who didn't ...

Fair point. But at the time, it looked like a massive pay-day - so I can understand the club going for it in such a big way.

Ah, twas fools' gold, alas...

OK, how about filming 'Phoenix from the flames' style recreations of goals and make them available on the web? It's not beating the evil empire that is FLPTV but a little bit of a subversive fightback.

Publicise it as much we can (this sort of thing may well get a bit of press coverage just down to it's novelty factor) and we can use any platform we may get to express the real concerns and complaints about the so called 'service' provided by FLPTV.

Obviously the SZ team have more than enough on their plate without neccesarily wanting or being able to put their time and efforts into such an idea, but I for one would be more than happy to give up a couple of hours on a Sunday filming a recreation of the previous days goals. Maybe we could enlist Shrimperzone FC to play the parts of their Southend United heros.

Anyone else think it could work?

Hmmm. Well, it was about Southend highlights posted on a Southend message board, by a Southend fan.

hmm, the other day, I went home and my Southend shirt was washed by a Southend fan in Southend. Can that make the front page?

Only if you are recreating goals conceded.

I can't understand where this £35 figure comes from. For £35, I can get to 4 home games.

How can a downloadable highlights package and a radio service that used to be free of charge be worth this much, even with a profit margin tagged on there!!
