Transfer News and Gossip Wa Hoo a genuine transfer RUMOUR

Transfer news
From what I’ve heard is that Kev & co have their targets lined up, and have been speaking to clubs/players/agents etc but the selling clubs need to bring in replacements, which suggests some are from EFL clubs, and they are waiting for January to roll around.
Which is how it usually works…?
Are you saying that these players are not surplus to requirements at their current club? Otherwise, January window seems a pointless time to wait (pre sign them at least) if they’re waiting for replacements, that suggests active squad members that will require a fee…

I’m not sure, but it’s prudent to wait until you have a replacement before you let someone go.

People are talking about Moncur & Bonne. I’m not sure if Moncur has a break clause in his loan, but I wouldn’t expect us to send him back (If Kev wants to) without bringing in a replacement.

Could easily be players that are on the bench as opposed to starters, I’m not sure.

Hence why there was little point keeping the transfer thread open. Seems to me Kev has decided he will only bring in the players he really wants, and who will improve us rather than make do. Short term pain, longer term gain.

The only worry there is we could miss out if they can't find replacements or have to wait until the last possible minute to happen.

We must wait until January though. There can't possibly be players we can sign now
Rock and a hard place, do you panic sign someone who isn't your first choice or wait until January to get your prime target. We don't want to fall into the trap of filling our squad full of players that aren't good enough.

I'd love nothing more to see new faces through the door and was excited by Moncur and Bonne, they have yet to impress. Were they rush signings or genuinely our no.1 targets?

It’s about the right players. By all accounts there have been players available but the decision is made to wait for the right signings.

There was a time, a numbers of days ago, when building sustainably, getting the right players in, right attitude, players in who really improve the squad rather than match what we have, was considered a good idea.

If we were patient we would see what the window brings. But patience, for all that was promised when we got rid of he who must not be named, seems to have been in many cases illusionary…regrettably…..Happily I suspect COSU are made of sterner stuff (they have needed to be)

It too shall pass…

Probably not no.1 targets. Despite how it's gone so far I do think the pair of them were well worth a try/gamble on the terms we achieved (loan deal and 1+1 club's favour) and could still come good.

Neither were fit or had a pre-season for starters. We have seen on many occasions how long players take to get fully up to speed without a pre-season.

Who said we need to panic? We need depth, why are we not signing players on loan for short-term whilst we wait for the permanent targets to become available?

We don’t need more depth, we need more quality. It’s not like last season where we were struggling with 2 subs, we have no issues naming a 7 man bench at the moment.

There aren’t going to be that many players available for loan at this stage of the season. So if they aren’t an upgrade on what we’ve got, what’s the point?

Any loan would probably end up being someone like Foran again, who just sat on the bench and did nothing for a month.

While that is welcome news, unless we can stop this slump in the next 6 weeks, the season will well and truly be written off by then.

Tbf I've pretty much lost interest already. I'm dreading Saturday and seeing miley and Husin rewarded for nothing, whilst Coker and morton sit on the bench watching us employ a 3-5-2 that is as dull as dishwater and yeilds nothing

Weren’t we waiting for the transfer window to close in the summer to be able to bring in some players? Fast forward to November, we’ve signed nobody and citing the same excuse that we’re waiting for the transfer window to OPEN to allow our top targets to be replaced by their clubs, so they can leave… interesting how it works both ways!

Not quite.

We hoped that the closing of the summer window would allow us to bring in Tshimanga, if he was still at Posh, and Moncur if he was still at Orient. They were deemed surplus to requirements but their current clubs.

However, who we are trying to bring in aren’t surplus in the fact they don’t want them around, but ones they will let go if replacements can be brought in.

Doesn't fill me with confidence we'll be signing many then

I’m surprised we seem to be focussing our efforts on the EFL again.

I’d much rather sign someone who has earned a move up the divisions (and I’d classify someone stepping up from u23 football as stepping up) than someone whose play has caused them to move down the divisions. There are always exceptions but it generally seems the better bet. It’s easier to see what a player can do and whether that would work at a higher level than see a struggling player and judge whether what isn’t working currently might work at a lower level.

Haven't we brought in Pebble, Moncur, Bonne, Jeacock and Foran since then?

Surely you have to look up for players as well as down?

Don’t forget those we potentially sign from the lower leagues could be seen as “projects” and stepping up into the full time game, so can’t make that immediate impact we require.

I can see a mixture coming in.
